"MITIGATING IED DEATHS & DESTRUCTION"
IMPROVISED EXPLOSIVE DEVICES COUNTERMEASURES
Our Government Never Listens to Great Ideas!

I am an engineer (M.S.E.E.) with a great invention idea on how to mitigate the deaths and destructions caused by IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices). I am a Disabled Veteran (Vietnam Era). On Sept. 23, 2006, we lost a beloved nephew in Iraq due to an IED (Sgt. Velton Locklear III) - a talented athlete and musician. Thousands of our warriors have been killed because of IEDs and 10,000s seriously injured, and more get killed or wounded from IEDs almost every day. Since then, I have been in search of invention ideas to minimize the losses of life, injuries and destroyed equipment caused by IEDs.

The trend towards Government solutions to any problem consists of huge, expensive, complex and inefficient implementations which usually work poorly. Just as we should have learned in Vietnam when we discovered that the M16 was clearly no match for the much simpler and sturdier AK47 assault rifle, that usually simpler, cheaper and more practical solutions work much better. Logic also states that if something can be defeated, if you make it bigger and heavier, it too can be defeated. However, huge, costly and complex implementations make powerful Government contractors even richer, so that is how technologies are chosen. And by implementing defective ideas, Government contractors guarantee future work and profits in their proposals for modifications to correct flaws. This same self-serving merry-go-round has existed for decades.

When it comes to defending against IEDs, the trend has been towards thicker and heavier steel plating and V-shaped vehicle hulls - all of which are counterproductive and defeatable. My invention idea should be much more effective in mitigating explosions than heavy steel plating. And heavy steel plating leads to sluggishness, lack of control, bogging down, and poor mileage. My invention idea is not limited to the bottoms of vehicles, but is applicable to all vehicle sides, and to bunkers, and possibly even to bomb-resistant clothing. And my invention idea is not restricted to IEDs, but can also provide protection against many other types of explosive devices, such as RPGs (Rocket-Propelled Grenades) - another big threat. And my invention idea is much cheaper and simpler to implement than thicker armor plates, and can retrofit vehicles in the field.

There is much Washington lip service dedicated to IED defenses. However, when it comes to actually making serious efforts to try to find real solutions, there is no one in sight. Like Don Quixote tilting at windmills and Diogenes's search for the honest man, I have not been able to find a single technically qualified, trustworthy and authoritative person in Government to divulge my invention idea to who is willing to acknowledge receipt of my idea and spend at least an hour or so to seriously evaluate it, and inform me of his/her/their evaluation results. I have not asked the Government for any money - only for full credit and public recognition for my idea should they test it or use it. I have emailed President Obama, Senator Jeff Bingaman and Rep. Martin Heinrich to no avail (I didn't waste my time on Senator Tom Udall because Tom Udall has a long anti-military and anti-veteran history). I have emailed a dozen Veterans organizations, with only a half-hearted response from one. I emailed The Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, Dr. Jonathan Woodson, M.D. (Pentagon, Room 3E1070, Washington, D.C. 20301-1200), the primary Government official responsible for developing methods to mitigate IED deaths and injuries - also no response!

I have been told that: 'The Department of Defense often puts out RFPs (Requests for Proposals) to meet certain needs, but that to try to get someone from DoD to actually review or evaluate an "invention idea," or concept, but not an actual working invention itself, is problematical, and will likely not garner serious consideration even if presented to the "right" person.' The problem with the apparent requirement of presenting working models first is that only people and businesses with the wherewithal to design, develop and test IED defense technology can be taken seriously, limits new ideas only to the large corporate contractors currently already being heavily rewarded for their costly, complex, impractical and ineffective ideas. Fact is, technology feasibility can be determined without working models.

Based on my experiences, if you just simply mail a great invention idea to someone in Government you believe should be qualified and in a position of responsibility to properly evaluate your idea, your idea will either be ignored or ripped-off. It is just not me - there are many technical people in America who have great ideas to improve our Country in so many ways but no one in official Government positions to listen to them and fairly and seriously evaluate their ideas while protecting their intellectual rights. What a huge waste of our resources! The biggest thing that our Government can do to both solve serious problems and promote new businesses and technologies is to establish an office where great ideas can be presented, acknowledged, evaluated, protected and rewarded. However, since this would mean more competition for powerful corporate giants, it will never happen.

It is clear that our Government won't give us the time of day on my invention idea to mitigate deaths and destruction caused by IEDs unless we design, build and test IED countermeasures devices ourselves and then provide it with working models. Therefore, if we are able to do so, we will design, build and test my IED defense invention idea ourselves!

"MITIGATING IED DEATHS & DESTRUCTION - Our Government Never Listens to Great Ideas!" is a short publication - mostly what I have stated herein. It does not detail my invention idea nor does it provide designs or plans for it. Hopefully, we will make enough sales of our booklet to at least afford to get started on my IED defense device ourselves. We currently have small shops and laboratories outfitted for electronic design and fabrication, but not suitable for a big mechanical project like this. If after several months we have not raised enough money to have a reasonable chance of completing our anti-IED project, we will simply donate the balance to charity and/or church.

I am not a Johnny-come-lately who just suddenly came up with one great idea. Consider:
          (1) In 2000, I discovered how The Great Pyramid of Egypt was built (Khufu's Pyramid (Egyptian name), Cheops's Pyramid (Greek name)). The mystery of how Khufu's Pyramid was built was referred to as the "Riddle of the Ages" - stumping some of the greatest minds of mankind for many centuries. Until my theory of a near-centrally located hydraulic elevator, the most accepted theory among Archaeologists is The Ramp Theory. But to build a 481-foot tall, 10-degree or less ramp requires about 7 times more material than what went into the Pyramid itself, would probably wash out from the first storm, is impractical for hauling heavy loads on log rollers, and would have had to be totally removed after the Pyramid was built (while there is evidence of a ramp, it extended only about 40 feet high to the Queen's Chamber). The Ancient Egyptians were brilliant people - no way would they have built anything that big and complex using brute-force methods. Ancient Egypt was known as, �The Great Hydraulic Civilization.� My hydraulic elevator theory explains every major mysterious and inexplicable feature of Khufu's Pyramid (concavity of the pyramid sides, the Grand Gallery, entrance to the King's Chamber, the Subterranean Chamber, etc.) - some of which were mysteries up to that point. I copyrighted my book on it in early 2001. Not a single Archaeologist or Egyptologist has stated that my discovery is wrong - including world-renowned Dr. Zahi Hawass (former head of Egyptian Antiquities), who I submitted my book to, and who has intensely criticized many other people's ideas about the Great Pyramid over the decades.
          (2) After the huge tsunami of Dec. 2004 which killed 300,000+ people, in early 2005, I drew up plans to put in coastal underwater structures that would not only cause tsunami waves to crash offshore, thereby saving many lives, but also generate electricity to impoverished areas of our Planet during normal seas and provide sea life habitat and coastal defenses. As well as plans for simple, inexpensive electronic devices which any ship can carry to detect tsunamis in open ocean and warn endangered coastal areas in time to evacuate early. I provided my invention ideas to our Government (NOAA, USGS) and American universities heavily funded to do tsunami research, and my ideas were all ignored. One university even returned my manuscript with an attached note stating that they were refusing to even read it! The result will be that every time a major tsunami occurs, many more lives will be lost than with my invention idea.
          (3) During the 2010 Gulf Coast British Petroleum oil spill, I came up with a great invention idea on how to plug the leak simply, fast and inexpensively. Instead, BP tried out asinine "solutions" like the "mud shot" and the "junk shot" - both which I had advised against after making my calculations because they would not and could not work - both failed miserably as expected, and the result was that much more oil was dumped into the Gulf. No one tried out my idea, or even seriously considered it!

In early 2005, in response to the Dec. 26, 2004 horrific Indonesian Tsunami, John Williams, M.S.E.E., wrote, "Mitigate Tsunami Destructive Forces, Plus," and "Detect & Measure Tsunamis in Open Ocean." Williams distributed free copies to so-called tsunami researchers. One California University which is heavily funded by the U.S. Government to do Tsunami research irresponsibly REFUSED to even read Williams's book - and told him so! The NOAA and USGS irresponsibly refused to even respond! Kevlar is renowned as a "bullet-proof" material - an incredibly strong and tough material! Kevlar is not only famous for its ballistics stopping properties but also as one of the strongest, toughest, most wear-resistant (scuff resistant), and most heat-resistant materials used in various other protection, construction and structural applications as well (not to mention how well Kevlar protects Batman). This super strong, super tough Kevlar fabric is widely used by the police, military, aerospace, marine (e.g. boat building / boat repairing), construction, automotive, sports, and mining industries. All popular Kevlars are rated at about 49,000 psi tensile strength - 5 times stronger than nylon of the same size - 5 times stronger than steel cable of the same weight - this Kevlar web material should be able to hold about 4,600 lbs load for the 1.5" wide Kevlar and about 6,100 lbs load for the 2.0"-wide Kevlar. Kevlar is also fire resistant and flame resistant - resists charring up to about 900 degrees F (nylon melts, burns and loses almost all of its strength and toughness above about 300 degrees F; nylon releases toxic fumes when it burns).

Note that this is heavy-duty Kevlar strap. This is not Kevlar ribbon, which is a thin Kevlar fabric and therefore lacks most of the strength, toughness and resistance to stretching of this thick industrial-grade Kevlar webbing. This is also not Kevlar wick because it has a very tight weave while Kevlar wick weave is intentionally loose to sop-up fuel. Kevlar wick is not built for strength, toughness or resistance to stretch, but only takes advantage of Kevlar's phenomenal resistance to being burned or melted to be reusable lamp wicks.

While this Kevlar strapping is not Kevlar wick, even with its much tighter weave, this Kevlar can be used as a virtually non-consuming lamp wick in a pinch. And it can also be wrapped around the top of a pole and then dipped into a flammable liquid to serve as a practically indestructible and re-usable torch (in fact, we use pieces of our Kevlar webbing to wipe off hot soldering irons). Similarly, this Kevlar webbing can be soaked with a fuel and laid out in lines or squares and set afire for optimum and reusable aerial spotting purposes (e.g. wilderness rescue). Because of its terrific heat resistance / burn resistance along with its legendary strength and toughness, Kevlar finds great uses in many hot applications, ranging from kitchen to welding to model rocketry to ceramics to glassblowing to car racing.

The Batman producers selected for Batman the most effective and advanced high-tech accessories on the planet to carry out his superhero work. One of these high-tech accessories most critical to Batman's survival from all kinds of violent physical assaults is his outfit. The fact that the Batman producers picked Kevlar for Batman's outfit says much about the super-great protective qualities of Kevlar. Just as Kevlar was chosen to protect Batman, choose Kevlar to protect you in the real world.

PROTECTIVE GARMENT / BODY ARMOR USES: We are all living in an increasingly dangerous world. Anything which can provide you (and your loved ones) substantial protection against handguns, shotguns and some rifles, knives, hatchets, axes, claws, teeth/fangs and blunt weapons - not to mention sports hazards, occupational hazards and transportation hazards - can mean the difference in your spouse, parents and kids ever seeing you alive again. Kevlar material is great! Kevlar vests are always made from Kevlar plies or Kevlar overlays - not from a single sheet of Kevlar - because plies add strength and toughness, and distribute impact forces much better. You can cut this Kevlar webbing into lengths, lay them down in plies, and cement or sew the Kevlar plies together to form Kevlar protective vests to much better protect you and your loved ones from many oncoming sharp, pointed, blunt, high-energy and very hot objects from damaging your Kevlar protected body, animals or equipment. While your homemade Kevlar protective vest may not be as elegant or pretty (more on toughness below) as very expensive commercial "bullet-proof" vests, Kevlar protection is far better than leather, denim and canvass. And you can make the vest to form fit you to your size and shape (like Batman) to make it more comfortable to wear and concealable under your clothes. Your Kevlar "bullet-proof" vest should also provide you protection from some industrial accidents, car accidents, sports accidents and even every day accidents. Several years ago, we was struck in the right chest by a fast, heavy rock ejected from a mower - it easily punched through my heavy leather coat - if we had been struck over my heart, head or neck, it likely would have killed me.

Advanced body armor design may employ articulated armor (also called, articulated body armor, flexible armor, flexible body armor and flex armor), and using Kevlar, it is called articulated Kevlar armor (also called, articulated Kevlar body armor, flexible Kevlar armor or flexible Kevlar body armor) - much more flexible than rigid body armor, often more comfortable, and usually more effective at protecting the wearer. This great Kevlar webbing is ideal for all forms of flexible body armor using Kevlar.

You can also use this Kevlar webbing to make head bands, head caps, neck bands, belts, arm wraps, foot wraps, leg wraps, chaps, and shorts/trousersto protect and support those vital body areas as well - especially critical if you are around powerful cutting or puncturing machines (e.g. power nailers, circular saws, chain saws), or animals which tend to bite or claw the head, neck or limbs, or rough sports.

You can also use this Kevlar webbing to make relatively lightweight Kevlar protective panels which you can hide inside or behind your valises, book bags, backpacks, suitcases, books (even schools these days can be dangerous), car doors, car trunks, doors, windows, walls, etc., so if and when that bad situation ever occurs, you can put your valise, backpack, door, etc. between you and the oncoming threat and have a much greater chance of surviving the experience. Years ago, when New York's "Son of Sam" pointed his gun at a young woman walking towards him on a city sidewalk, she held up her book bag to protect herself. The 44 magnum bullet penetrated all of her thick textbooks and killed her anyhow. If in addition, she had a thick Kevlar panel inside her book bag, the bullet may not have penetrated or have deflected away enough from her body and she may have lived. Today's streets are dangerous - especially in some cities - and you just do not know when and where the next terrible threat is going to come from! In disaster situations, you may be suddently faced with total lawlessness, rioters, looters, rapists and robbers. And every time you pick up the paper there is someone going postal at work, or some serial killer or Beltway Shooter type on the loose.

You can also use this Kevlar webbing to help protect buildings, shelters, airports, chemical plants, mines and tunnels from collapsing, caving in or being penetrated by explosive forces, and the resulting falling debris and flying debris. This can be done by sandwiching a crosshatch pattern of this Kevlar webbing with some type of plastic sheeting (flexible or non-flexible), all held together by a strong adhesive. Then reinforce these Kevlar-plastic panels with angle iron or aluminum angle along its edges. Then cementing or screwing in the panels onto the walls and ceilings most vulnerable to penetration. Just what you might need if you live or work in a war zone, high crime area, or an area afflicted by earthquakes, hurricanes or tornadoes, or inside a high-risk structure or mine. Add into this sandwich assembly aluminum or copper foil or galvanized steel sheeting, and you have additional protection from microwave penetrations.

To determine how much Kevlar strapping you need for any application, you might first simulate your design using strips of roll cloth or ribbon of this width, and then perhaps adding another 10% in your order for mistakes or extra things you can use the leftovers for (e.g. protective headbands, neckbands, arm wraps, belts, head caps, panels, etc.). For adults, a protective vest from neck to groin should come to about 15-20 feet of 1.5" Kevlar and about 10-15 feet of 2" Kevlar.

ROPE LADDER USES: Also see our Kevlar sleeving offer herein. Commercially-made rope ladders using nylon rope are very expensive (I know of none that uses Kevlar rope or Kevlar strapping/webbing) - we 've seen them priced at about $50 + S/H for a measely 4 feet long rope ladder made of nylon. Kevlar is used for lifting elevators (sometimes to replace elevator steel cables, which doesn't last nearly as long as Kevlar cabling), so you know that Kevlar will hold one heck of load suspended vertically from it and under adverse conditions (e.g. unbalanced load, shifting load, swinging load, much in-motion contact with hard, rough surfaces, etc.). If you use this Kevlar to make a rope ladder (say you work or live several stories high), and your building is subject to fire, explosion and/or airplane crash, and you are physically fit enough to climb down a rope ladder when your life depends on it, as a last resort to save your life you can descend down your Kevlar rope ladder to ground safety PLUS 20+ other family members, friends, associates, etc. can also all descend down your rope ladder behind you and all be on the Kevlar ladder at the same time and this Kevlar webbing should not break - just as long their total weight does not exceed the Kevlar webbing huge weight limit - even if the room itself or rooms below it are burning. Even if you are on the 100th floor, you may be able to safely and quickly descend down enough floors to be able to land on a balcony, roof top or kick through the window of another room below the danger you have escaped to save your life. You can even use this Kevlar webbing to make a simplified version of a rope ladder by simply tieing knots in a single piece of the webbing every 2-4 feet along its total length and then buying a good pair of leather work gloves and a strong harness (which you can also make from Kevlar webbing) with a large strong buckles or clevises on it to secure you to the Kevlar strapping to safely descend. Consider that if you work or live in a multi-story building, what would you do right now to save yourself and others from a fire, explosion or plane crash in a floor below yours? Experts say that fleeing to the roof and being saved by a helicopter seldom happens in real life. That's because access to the roof without keys, the availability of a rescue helicopter in time, and the ability of the rescue helicopter to get close enough to rescue you are rare. Elevators often don't work and trap victims inside, and in panics, stairways clog up quickly with slow people. Other victims with no hope of being rescued and with no rope or ladder, dove out of windows of the Twin Towers on 9/11 to their certain violent deaths. Your only reasonable path to rescue is out the window!

KEVLAR'S MANY OTHER USES: Kevlar webbing and Kevlar sleeving have many other uses - practically unlimited - and many related to safety and security, requiring minimal weight and bulk compared to similar performances from ropes, webbing, cables and chains made from nylon, steel and other high-strength materials. Some of them: Rescue equipment, tow straps, lifting straps, elevator cables, hoists, safety harnesses, horse / carriage harnesses, military and other helmets, core material for conveyor belts / pully belts (can be made into a makeshift pully belt), climbing ropes / rapelling ropes (e.g. rock climbing, spelunking), hang gliding / parachute straps, swing attachments, vehicle barriers, composite bow cores, ground up as tire / clutch / brake pad filler material (replaces asbestos), to make boats and aircraft bodies, cable / pipe / tube protection (Kevlar is also both thermal insulator and great electrical insulator), protective clothing and accessories used in rough sports (e.g. contact sports, paint ball) / industrial / outdoor activities, strapping to secure and lift heavy equipment, crates and bundles of pipes, lumber, other materials, to securely tie down heavy vehicle loads, to protectively wrap or encase fossil bones, delicate parts and equipment subjected to being battered around. Kevlar can also be used to make shoe soles (which should last virtually forever) and shoe and boot linings to protect the feet from nails, glass, animal bites and claws, etc. And Kevlar webbing can also be used to secure vehicles and other Items from theft in some situations because it is very difficult to cut with bolt cutters and unlikely for the criminal to show up with a blade sharp and hard enough to get through Kevlar (so tough that knives and saw blades tend to get snagged in it - see how to properly cut Kevlar below). Kevlar is an ideal material to have around for various construction projects because you can use it to reinforce force-bearing wood, plastic, sheet metal and composite materials you use for much greater strength and toughness (for example, by sandwiching it between two boards or posts used to span a large opening and securely cementing the assembly together). And if you have an especially heavy job, for example, trying to pull out a tree stump or car out of a ditch or raise a car engine, you will really appreciate the great advantages of Kevlar. This Kevlar webbing should be able to replace whatever other lesser webbing material you now have in your winch or hoist of the same or bigger size.

Kevlar can be combined with other materials to further increase its strength and toughness. For example, you can mix up certain fibers of the right size and aspect ratio with your cement used to secure the plies. You can also use Kevlar in conjunction with ballistic ceramics, carbon cloth and other protective materials. The important thing to remember is that for a garment designed to protect the torso, you want maximum toughness. Toughness is the ability to resist breaking when under violent force. Toughness is somewhat directly proportional to tensile strength - which is extremely high in all known Kevlar materials - and somewhat inversely proportional to stiffness. On one hand, you do not want your protective Kevlar vest to be rock stiff, and on the other hand, you do not want it to tear or even deform more than about 2" under the most brutal force it is designed to protect you against. Consider that the kinetic energy (KE) on object impact equals one-half the object's mass times its velocity squared, and the resulting impact force is equal to the KE divided by the stopping distance. For example, the impact force to stop a projectile in 1" is only 1% of the impact force to stop the same projectile in 1/100". Greater stiffness means greater impact force which means more likely material shattering, penetration and being knocked down. You want the body armor to react to violent force more like taffy and less like concrete. On the other hand, more than 2" of deformation under force usually means more than 2" of deformation of your body from the hit, resulting in likely fatal or near fatal injury from blunt force trauma to your organs, and not just painful but survivable bruising that may not even be severe enough to land you in one of today's super expensive hospitals. The reason why Kevlar plies are used is that you want the force to spread out from the point of impact in a conical fashion to the area of the fabric in contact with your body so that the per-square inch (psi) of the force that reaches your body is orders of magnitude less than the impact point psi. Its not the impact force that kills you, its penetration or psi that kills you! When the plied Kevlar is hit, it deforms into the body, and as it deforms, much of the impact force radiates nearly horizontally in it, resulting in the spread out or radiation of the force in a conical pattern. The black center stripe down this Kevlar strapping is there to help you more perfectly align your ply strips as you sew or cement them together so that there are no borders between the plies. For added protection, consider placing a couple of extra plies over the heart area.

Untreated Kevlar webbing also has low coefficient of friction - as low as about 0.15 - about the same as nylon webbing but with much better strength, toughness, wear resistance and thermal properties than nylon webbing. Kevlar webbing is great for Kevlar skids and Kevlar sled guides. For example, use Kevlar webbing to make Kevlar skids for your truck, van or SUV bed to make it much easier for you to place, position and remove heavy loads, and also protects the bottom and sides of your vehicle's bed from much wear and dings. Use Kevlar webbing to make Kevlar sled guides - Kevlar is so great that polar exploration teams will measure ice thickness every foot for 1,250 miles near the North Pole at temperatures as low as -58 °F using sleds outfitted with Kevlar sled guides ("Popular Science," Feb. 2009, p.29).

Kevlar does have a few disadvantages, all of which can be fairly easily overcome. Kevlar will deteriorate faster than nylon when exposed to water or UV radiation, so in these long term environments Kevlar materials should always be covered by a sealed, snug-fitting, opaque plastic material or coated with a marine resin (water-protected Kevlar webbing and Kevlar sheets are commonly used in boat construction and boat repairs). And because Kevlar is so extremely strong and tough, it is difficult to cut, and cutting it with even the sharpest scissors or knife often results in fraying or splaying of Kevlar fibers at the cut point. However, if you lay down a line of cement (e.g. plastic model airplane glue) along the desired cut line (both sides), once cured, We have found it much easier to cut Kevlar materials using a sharp Fiskars scissors (We have also heard that tough scissors made by Belmont, Kretzer-Finny, Gingher and Wiss scissors also work good to cut Kevlar cordage and webbing, but have not tried them myself). Much better is a Dremel tool with industrial diamond cutting disk/wheel - cuts clean, neat, fast and straight, never needs sharpening, safer than sharp tools, doesn't require pre-cementing the cut line, and doesn't leave frayed ends (and it also works great on plexiglas, plastics, metals, hardwoods). Dremel tools are about the size/shape of baby bottle, and some use rechargeable batteries. This means that you don't need big, powerful, costly tools or a shop to process Kevlar webbing, but you can work Kevlar even in relatively small spaces and outdoors (used Dremel tools and diamond cutting wheels are usually inexpensive; note that no tools, parts, accessories, cements or other materials are included with this Item). Also, Kevlar's cut fibers should not be breathed in or dispersed; do all of your Kevlar cutting, drilling, etc. outside or in another safe well-ventilated area where you can vacuum them all up and safely dispose of them. And with all tool work, always use safety goggles, dust mask and safety gloves, keep kids, pets, foods and liquids away, and work in a safe and careful manner. We have handled, cut and drilled a lot Kevlar for years and have not suffered any known harmful effects from Kevlar.

Commonly available and relatively inexpensive cements and additives can be used to secure the Kevlar plies in place while enhancing Kevlar's already great toughness. The Kevlar sleeving is taken from the new roll of 0.75"-wide Kevlar sleeving in 10' increments (you choose the length, prices below; we also sell 1.5"-wide and 2.0" wide Kevlar webbing (not Kevlar sleeving), see above). This Kevlar sleeving is about 1/16" thick. You can buy as many continuous feet in 10' increments of this Kevlar sleeving as we have in a new roll, if you buy more than one 10' piece, the Kevlar sleeving will be shipped rolled up as one uncut length unless you specify otherwise (e.g. if you buy 30', you will get one uncut 30' piece). Kevlar is renowned as a "bullet-proof" material - an incredibly strong and tough material! Kevlar is not only famous for its ballistics stopping properties but also as one of the strongest, toughest, most wear-resistant (scuff-resistant), and most heat-resistant materials used in various other protection, construction and structural applications as well (not to mention how well Kevlar protects Batman). This super strong, super tough Kevlar fabric is widely used by the police, military, aerospace, marine (e.g. boat building / boat repairing), construction, automotive, and sports industries. All popular Kevlars are rated at about 49,000 psi tensile strength - 5 times stronger than nylon of the same size - 5 times stronger than steel cable of the same weight - this Kevlar sleeve material should be able to hold about 1,500 lbs load. Kevlar is also fire resistant and flame resistant - resists charring up to about 900 degrees F (nylon melts, burns and loses almost all of its strength and toughness above about 300 degrees F; nylon releases toxic fumes when it burns).

Note that this is Kevlar sleeving. This is not Kevlar ribbon, which is a thin non-sleeving (single-layer) Kevlar fabric, which lacks much of the strength, toughness and resistance to length-wise stretching as this Kevlar sleeving. This is also not Kevlar wick. Kevlar wick is a loose Kevlar weave - not built for strength, toughness or resistance to stretch - which takes advantage of Kevlar's phenomenal resistance to being burned, and which is used as a re-usable lamp wick. However, this Kevlar sleeving, even with its much tighter weave, can be used as a lamp wick in a pinch, and it can also be wrapped around the top of a pole and then dipped into a flammable liquid to serve as a practically indestructible and re-usable torch. Similarly, this Kevlar webbing can be soaked with a fuel and laid out in lines or squares and set afire for optimum aerial spotting purposes (e.g. wilderness rescue).

The big advantage of Kevlar sleeving, as opposed to webbing, is that you can pull it over cables, wire bundles, chains, ropes, rods, pipes, tubes, cylinders and parts it will fit over upto about 1" cross section, including items with odd-shaped cross-sections, as well as round and square, to add strength and to protect them from abrasions, cuts and fire. This Kevlar sleeving fits nicely over the fingers and toes, and can be used as finger protectors / toe protectors where they are exposed to abrasions, cuts, punctures or fire dangers, or even make glove parts and sock parts from this Kevlar sleeve material. This Kevlar sleeving also fits nicely over tool handles for better grip and improved insulation. The inside diameter of the Kevlar sleeving is 3/4" but it expands along its width to about 1" diameter, and lays flat on a spool or reel. While being very strong, tough and fire-resistant, this Kevlar sleeving is pliable and supple - easy to knot and un-knot, to fold, and to roll into a rope and strung through tarp eyelets, making it very versatile for countless uses. It is also compact and lightweight - 100 feet can be easily rolled into a small enough roll to fit inside a pocket, valise, tool box, backpack or concealed in a desk (in case you need to escape through a window to save your life).

ROPE LADDER USES: Also see our 1-1/2" and 2"-wide Kevlar webbing offers herein. Commercially-made rope ladders using nylon rope are very expensive (I know of none that uses Kevlar rope or Kevlar strapping/webbing) - we 've seen them priced at about $50 + S/H for a measely 4 feet long rope ladder made of nylon. Kevlar is used for lifting elevators (sometimes to replace elevator steel cables, which doesn't last nearly as long as Kevlar cabling), so you know that Kevlar will hold one heck of load suspended vertically from it and under adverse conditions (e.g. unbalanced load, shifting load, swinging load, much in-motion contact with hard, rough surfaces, etc.). If you use this Kevlar to make a rope ladder (say you work or live many stories high), and your building is subject to fire, explosion and/or aircraft crash, and you are physically fit enough to climb down a rope ladder when your life depends on it, as a last resort to save your life you can descend down your Kevlar rope ladder to ground safety PLUS 4+ other family members, friends, associates, etc. can also all descend down your rope ladder behind you and all be on the Kevlar ladder at the same time and this Kevlar sleeving should not break - just as long their total weight does not exceed the Kevlar sleeving great weight limit - even if the room itself or rooms below it are burning. Once some reach the bottom, others can get on at the top. Even if you are on the 100th floor, you may be able to safely and quickly descend down enough floors to be able to land on a balcony, roof top of a nearby building or kick through the window of another room below the danger you have escaped to save your life.
To make the simplest Kevlar rope ladder possible, you simply tie knots in a single piece of the Kevlar sleeve of the length you need every 2-4 feet along its total length and then buy a good pair of leather work gloves and a strong harness (which you can also make from Kevlar sleeving) with a large strong buckles or clevises on it to secure you to the Kevlar sleeving to safely descend. A safer Kevlar rope ladder with two sides and Kevlar "rungs" is almost as simple to make - just requires about 3.5 times the Kevlar sleeving as a knotted single.
Consider that if you work or live in a multi-story building, what would you do right now to save yourself and others from a fire, explosion or plane crash in a floor below yours? Experts say that fleeing to the roof and being saved by a helicopter seldom happens in real life. For example, those who fled to the roof tops of the Twin Towers on 9/11 all died - zero were rescued by helicopter. That's because access to the roof without keys and a guide, the availability of a rescue helicopter in time, and the ability of the rescue helicopter to get close and fast enough to rescue you all rarely occur. Elevators often don't work and trap victims inside, and in panics, stairways clog up quickly with slow people. Other victims with no hope of being rescued and with no rope or ladder, dove out of windows of the Twin Towers on 9/11 to their certain violent deaths. In virtually all cases, to save yourself, you MUST go through the window to be rescued, and you MUST have a very strong rope or ladder to safely descend from the danger area to safety!

PROTECTIVE GARMENT USES: You can also use this Kevlar webbing to make head bands, head caps, neck bands, belts, arm wraps, foot wraps, leg wraps, chaps, and shorts/trousersto protect and support those vital body areas as well - especially critical if you are around powerful cutting or puncturing machines (e.g. power nailers, circular saws, chain saws), or animals which tend to bite or claw the head, neck or limbs, or rough sports. And as tie-down straps for garments and panels usually made from heavier Kevlars, such as the Kevlar webbing we also sell (see herein). And as very strong and durable carrying and pulling handles. And as protective trim for clothes, luggage, equipment, furniture, etc. to protect surfaces and contact points which may tend to receive more frictional wear-and-tear than other parts. Kevlar sleeving is commonly slipped over cable, wire bundles, pipe, hose and tubing to provide them much greater friction protection, and for fire protection whether the fire is external or due to an electrical short or bursting situation inside the Kevlar sleeving, and in addition (if the fitting is snug), helps protect pipe, hose and tubing from bursting due to high pressures or defects in pipe/hose/tube wall. As well as providing electrical and thermal insulation for the jacketed item. And Kevlar sleeving is used as a protective wrap for larger diameter items.

GREAT PURSE, WALLET, BAG & BACKPACK PROTECTION: In many urban areas and foreign countries today, thieves will rush by you with a sharp knife, razor or cutters and cut the strap of your purse, bag or backpack - rip it right off your body, and flee with it in just seconds. While our Kevlar sleeving is not totally indestructible, it is much, much stronger and tougher than are cloth, leather, plastic and nylon straps. To cut Kevlar sleeving here, we use a power cutter with a diamond disk. You can use this Kevlar sleeving to either replace or reinforce your normal straps. Since it is sleeving, many types of straps can be fed through it. Or you can use tape or plastic ties (not included) to secure the Kevlar parallel to your straps. For wallets, you can punch a hole into the fold, and run the Kevlar sleeving through it, tying one end to your wallet and the other end to your belt so no one can grab and run with your wallet when you take it out to pay for things - sure beats tying a chain to your wallet.

KEVLAR'S MANY OTHER USES: Kevlar sleeving and Kevlar webbing have many other uses - practically unlimited - and many related to safety and security, requiring minimal weight and bulk compared to similar performances from ropes, webbing, cables and chains made from nylon, steel and other high-strength materials. Some of them: Rescue equipment, tow straps, lifting straps, elevator cables, hoists, safety harnesses, horse / carriage harnesses, military and other helmets, core material for conveyor belts / pully belts (can be made into a makeshift pully belt), climbing ropes / rapelling ropes (e.g. rock climbing, spelunking), hang gliding / parachute straps, swing attachments, vehicle barriers, composite bow cores, ground up as tire / clutch / brake pad filler material (replaces asbestos), to make boats and aircraft bodies, cable / pipe / tube protection (Kevlar is also both thermal insulator and great electrical insulator), protective clothing and accessories used in rough sports (e.g. contact sports, paint ball) / industrial / outdoor activities, strapping to secure and lift heavy equipment, crates and bundles of pipes, lumber, other materials, to securely tie down heavy vehicle loads, to protectively wrap or encase fossil bones, delicate parts and equipment subjected to being battered around. Kevlar can also be used to make shoe soles (which should last virtually forever) and shoe and boot linings to protect the feet from nails, glass, etc. And Kevlar webbing can also be used to secure vehicles and other Items from theft in some situations because it is very difficult to cut with bolt cutters and unlikely for the criminal to show up with a blade sharp and hard enough to get through Kevlar (so tough that knives and saw blades tend to get snagged in it - see how to properly cut Kevlar below). Kevlar is an ideal material to have around for various construction projects because you can use it to reinforce force-bearing wood, plastic, sheet metal and composite materials you use for much greater strength and toughness (for example, by sandwiching it between two boards or posts used to span a large opening and securely cementing the assembly together). And if you have an especially heavy job, for example, trying to pull out a tree stump or car out of a ditch or raise a car engine, you will really appreciate the great advantages of Kevlar. This Kevlar webbing should be able to replace whatever other lesser webbing material you now have in your winch or hoist of the same or bigger size.

Kevlar can be combined with other materials to further increase its strength and toughness. For example, you can mix up certain fibers of the right size and aspect ratio with your cement used to secure the plies. You can also use Kevlar in conjunction with ballistic ceramics, carbon cloth and other protective materials. The important thing to remember is that for a garment designed to protect the torso, you want maximum toughness. Toughness is the ability to resist breaking when under violent force. Toughness is somewhat directly proportional to tensile strength - which is extremely high in all known Kevlar materials - and somewhat inversely proportional to stiffness. On one hand, you do not want your protective Kevlar vest to be rock stiff, and on the other hand, you do not want it to tear or even deform more than about 2" under the most brutal force it is designed to protect you against. Consider that the kinetic energy (KE) on object impact equals one-half the object's mass times its velocity squared, and the resulting impact force is equal to the KE divided by the stopping distance. For example, the impact force to stop a projectile in 1" is only 1% of the impact force to stop the same projectile in 1/100". Greater stiffness means greater impact force which means more likely material shattering, penetration and being knocked down. You want the body armor to react to violent force more like taffy and less like concrete. On the other hand, more than 2" of deformation under force usually means more than 2" of deformation of your body from the hit, resulting in likely fatal or near fatal injury from blunt trauma to your organs, and not just painful but survivable bruising that may not even be severe enough to land you in one of today's super expensive hospitals. The reason why Kevlar plies are used is that you want the force to spread out from the point of impact in a conical fashion to the area of the fabric in contact with your body so that the per-square inch (psi) of the force that reaches your body is orders of magnitude less than the impact point psi. Its not the impact force that kills you, its penetration or psi that kills you! When the plied Kevlar is hit, it deforms into the body, and as it deforms, much of the impact force radiates nearly horizontally in it, resulting in the spread out or radiation of the force in a conical pattern. The black center stripe down this Kevlar strapping is there to help you more perfectly align your ply strips as you sew or cement them together so that there are no borders between the plies. For added protection, consider placing a couple of extra plies over the heart area.

Kevlar does have a few disadvantages, all of which can be fairly easily overcome. It will deteriorate faster than nylon when exposed to water or UV radiation, so long term in these environments Kevlar materials should always be covered by a sealed, snug-fitting, opaque plastic material or coated with a marine resin (so-protected, Kevlar is commonly used in boat construction and boat repairs). And because Kevlar is so extremely strong and tough, it is difficult to cut, and cutting it with even the sharpest scissors or knife often results in fraying or splaying of fibers at the cut point. However, if you lay down a line of cement (e.g. plastic model airplane glue) along the desired cut line (both sides), and allow it to cure, we have found it much easier to cut Kevlar materials using a sharp Fiskars scissors (we have also heard that tough scissors made by Belmont, Kretzer-Finny, Gingher and Wiss scissors also work good to cut Kevlar cordage and webbing, but have not tried them myself). However, what works best for us is a Dremel tool with industrial diamond cutting disk/wheel - cuts clean, neat and straight, never needs sharpening, safer than sharp tools, doesn't require pre-cementing the cut line, and usually doesn't leave frayed ends (and it also works great on plexiglas, plastics, metals, woods, ceramic, glass). Dremel tools are about the size/shape of baby bottle, and some use rechargeable batteries. This means that you don't need big, powerful, costly tools or a shop to process Kevlar webbing, but you can work Kevlar even in relatively small spaces and outdoors (I buy Dremel tools at the flea market for about $10 each, and diamond wheels for about $1 each; note that no tools, parts, accessories, cements or other materials are included with this Item). Also, Kevlar's cut fibers should not be breathed in or dispersed; if possible, do all of your Kevlar cutting, drilling, etc. outside or in a limited well-ventilated area where you can vacuum them all up and safely dispose of them. And with all tool work, always use safety goggles, dust mask and safety gloves, keep kids and pets away, and work in a safe and careful manner. We have handled, cut and drilled a lot Kevlar and have not suffered any known harmful effects from Kevlar.

This stunning and exciting find is a rare vintage crime scene investigation (CSI) rolling tape measure equipment primarily used to investigate serious traffic accidents and perpetrator trails. Very high quality construction and materials. Body is made of metal and is about 7.5"diameter. Rolatape label states that it is a Rolatape Model 200 (Santa Monica, Calif.). Has an accordion-type folding arm that extends to about 3 feet (image shows it next to an 18" ruler). Used and works great. O. M. Franklin Identity Marking Tool. This rare and possibly unique stamping tool was originally made for stamping livestock in the mouth as a form of branding them. However, it has many other practical uses where one needs to uniquely identify something in a way that is both permanent (cannot be erased or covered up and won't wear out) and very difficult to counterfeit. You dial in the 4-digit serial number by rotating the wheels at the top of the tool head. Each digit consists of a number of 1/4"-long pointed steel spikes arrayed in the form of a digit (0 - 9) which penetrates or at least indents the material being marked. See upper right of image to see what the stamping looks like. Works especially well with soft-to-medium materials such as leather, plastic, some metals and wood, and flesh between 1/32" to 1/4" thick. Also makes a great collectible. Used and in great condition. Huge Messermeister knife case / tool case with 10 pockets. This very high quality knife bag / tool bag is 28" x 20" unfolded (excluding flip out flaps). Has a 19" wide zipper pocket, sturdy handle, and pinch connectors. The outside has a few stains and a small cut (repaired) due to a couple of trips we took with it. Inside is very clean but with two small cuts (repaired). Stains are minor and can probably be removed. New, industrial-grade tamperproof security seals / safety seals. These very high quality, useful and versatile tamperproof numbered seals are bright red, tough, durable plastic (you can easily spot and identify your protected item as well as any tampering of it far enough away to not be in danger), 7" long and 3/8" wide and flat, and 7-digit uniquely numbered seals.

Once sealed, the seal locking mechanism is not accessible and cannot be tampered with. These durable seals cannot be picked open, pried open, sprung open or bypassed without cutting or burning, melting, pulling or twisting the seals apart - all easily visually obvious. To break these strong, yet flexible, seals by manually pulling or twisting on them requires great physical strength - minimizing snatch and grab risks (I was unable to manually break one from its locking mechanism even using a Stryker orthopedic cast splitter!). These seals very reliably detect, alert and prevent otherwise hidden and secret threats, intrusions, invasions, surveillance, tampering, contamination, pilferage, sabotage, and other rip-offs, security violations and safety violations criminal acts and terrorist acts to your person, property, home, business and work site.

Security seals / safety seals are not usually used to replace locks, but are often used in conjunction with locks to verify that the locks have not been picked (lockpicking tools / lockpicking kits are cheap and widely available Online, flea markets, elsewhere), or bypassed using an authorized or unauthorized duplicate key (e.g. lost key, stolen key, master key), and in cases where the lock keys/combinations must go with the person who the item is temporarily entrusted to (e.g. movers, drivers of trucks and trailers, airline baggage handlers, storage facilities, cargo handlers, emergency personnel), resulting in locks alone not providing any protection. In these cases, if the lock is opened AND the seal is broken, then the entrusted person should have a very good reason, but without the seal, you may either not know or cannot prove that the lock was ever opened (as President Ronald Reagan used to say, "Trust but verify"). And one does not even need to steal a key or have access to a locksmith or key machine to make key duplicates - all one has to do is to make a key impression on a small piece of clay or bubble gum and then hand-file a blank key to match - any crook with access to your keys for even seconds can produce duplicate keys! And there are lists of combination lock combinations based on lock makes, models and serial numbers so even the most rugged combination lock may not be trustworthy!

And some valuable items which you need to add seals to protect come with locks so flimsy and easy to pick or bypass that these locks result in virtually zero security and safety (e.g. suitcases, brief cases, valises, purses, jewelry boxes, cash boxes, etc.). Because all locks can be opened with a duplicate key / combination and most can be picked open by someone with rudimentary locksmith skills and locksmith tools, in reality, locks offer very little real protection from persons making secret entries into "protected" areas or items. Locks in these situations provide only a costly false sense of security. The fact is NO MATTER HOW EXPENSIVE AND HIGH-QUALITY A LOCK IS, YOU CAN NEVER BE CERTAIN THAT THE LOCK WAS NOT COMPROMISED - UNLESS YOU USE IT WITH A SECURITY SEAL like these safety/security seals! Even if the criminal must cut or break the lock or jimmy the lock (e.g. most padlocks) to gain entry, the lock serves then only as a very expensive seal.

The truth is that those with criminal minds who operate or have regular access to storage sheds, storage lockers / storage cabinets, moving containers / moving services, shipping containers / shipping services, motels / hotels / lodges, bed-and-breakfasts, gyms, schools, golf courses, country clubs, sports centers, stock rooms / stock shelves, record areas, secure areas, airlines, etc. routinely obtain master keys, lock combinations lists, lock picking tools and cutting tools to enrich themselves by stealing from all of the fools who think their locks actually secure their valuable items - laughing all the way to their drug dealers at your expense!

In many jurisdictions, the unauthorized breaking of a security seal or safety seal is both a criminal offense and a tort, thereby giving you extra layers of legal protection than just locks by themselves (we are not an attorney so check for yourself for your jurisdiction). If the lock is picked or opened with a key/combination, it is much more difficult to prove that you have been pilfered from, contaminated or compromised (e.g. identity theft, stolen cash, stolen untraceable valuables). However, a broken seal or missing seal is very strong evidence of illegal entry - often a very good sign for you to call the police without endangering yourself and loved ones or contaminating evidence.

One prudent security and safety practice is to use locks with/without seals on outer containers (e.g. truck, trailer, airline, cargo container) and then seals on one or more of the inner containers (e.g. you are moving, or you have a variety of cargo or baggage some of which is valuable), such as jewelry boxes, important papers boxes, tool boxes, collectible boxes.

The replacement cost for each seal is about as much as a tie-wrap of about the same dimensions - so inexpensive that cutting the seal to get to your protected item is a tiny cost compared to the peace of mind the seal gives you. (NOTE: Tie wraps (zip ties) are not a substitute for these seals because tie-wraps (and cheap locks) can be easily picked open using an Xacto knife, paper clip or small screwdriver and then re-applied without a noticeable difference, tie-wraps are not uniquely numbered and therefore cannot be tracked, documented or likely used as evidence in a claim, and cut tie-wraps can be easily replaced by commonly-available look-alikes).

To break these strong, yet flexible, seals by manually pulling or twisting on them requires great physical strength - minimizing snatch and grab risks (I was unable to manually break one even using a Stryker orthopedic cast splitter!). These seals very reliably detect, alert and prevent otherwise hidden and secret threats, intrusions, invasions, surveillance, tampering, contamination, pilferage, sabotage, and other rip-offs, security violations and safety violations criminal acts and terrorist acts.

Security seals / safety seals are not usually used to replace locks, but are often used in conjunction with locks to verify that the locks have not been picked (lockpicking tools / lockpicking kits are cheap and widely available Online, elsewhere) or bypassed using an authorized or unauthorized duplicate key (e.g. stolen key, master key), and in cases where the lock keys/combinations must go with the person who the item is temporarily entrusted to (e.g. movers, drivers of trucks and trailers, airline baggage handlers, storage facilities, cargo handlers, emergency personnel), of whom locks alone offer no protection whatsoever. In these cases, if the lock is opened AND the seal is broken, then the entrusted person should have a very good reason, but without the seal, you may either not know or cannot prove that the lock was ever opened (as President Ronald Reagan used to say, "Trust but verify"). And one does not even need to steal a key or have access to a locksmith or key machine to make key duplicates - all one has to do is to make a key impression on a small piece of clay or bubble gum and then hand-file a blank key to match - any crook with access to your keys for even seconds can produce duplicate keys! And there are lists of combination lock combinations based on lock makes, models and serial numbers so even the most rugged combination lock may not be trustworthy!

And some items which seals should protect come with locks so flimsy and easy to pick or bypass that these locks result in virtually zero security and safety (e.g. suitcases, brief cases, valises, purses, jewelry boxes, cash boxes, etc.). Because all locks can be opened with a duplicate key / combination and most can be picked open by someone with rudimentary locksmith skills and locksmith tools, in reality, locks offer very little real protection from persons making secret entries into "protected" areas or items. Locks in these situations provide only a costly false sense of security. The fact is NO MATTER HOW EXPENSIVE AND HIGH-QUALITY A LOCK IS, YOU CAN NEVER BE CERTAIN THAT THE LOCK WAS NOT COMPROMISED - UNLESS YOU USE IT WITH A SECURITY SEAL like these security/safety seals! Even if the criminal must cut the lock or jimmy the lock (e.g. most padlocks) to gain entry, the lock serves then only as a very expensive seal.

In many jurisdictions, the unauthorized breaking of a security seal or safety seal is both a criminal offense and a tort, thereby giving you extra layers of legal protection than just locks by themselves (We are not an attorney so check for yourself for your jurisdiction). If the lock is picked or opened with a key/combination, it is much more difficult to prove that you have been pilfered from, contaminated or compromised (e.g. identity theft, stolen money, stolen other unidentifiable valuables). However, a broken seal or missing seal is very strong evidence of illegal entry - often a very good sign for you to call the police without endangering yourself or contaminating evidence.

The replacement cost for each seal is about as much as a tie-wrap of about the same dimensions - so inexpensive that cutting the seal to get to your protected item is a tiny cost compared to the peace of mind the seal gives you. (NOTE: Tie wraps are not a substitute for these seals because tie-wraps (and cheap locks) can be easily picked open using an Xacto knife, paper clip or small screwdriver and then re-applied without a noticeable difference, tie-wraps are not uniquely numbered and therefore cannot be tracked, documented or likely used as evidence in a claim, and cut tie-wraps can be easily replaced by a look-alike).

These seals are also excellent for sealing your home, job and/or business when you are away from them to make sure some rapist, home invader or stalker is not waiting inside for your return (or your children's return), some pervert is not inside your home fantasizing about your undies when you are out, some thief or burglar is not stealing your stuff and/or your identity (burglaries are a major source of identity theft), or some spy, snoop or goon is not invading your privacy by doing a black bag job on you.

These seals are also excellent as cargo seals to make sure that the items that arrive at the destination are the exact same items you shipped and have not been pilfered, switched or otherwise tampered with (you usually have to give the keys to the driver or cargo handler for emergency purposes, e.g. home moves, business moves and freight sales). If you are moving goods and you've hired movers who have the opportunity to steal items or rummage through your drawers, cabinets and plastic bins to steal items or your identity, seals should stop most of them. Because these seals are uniquely numbered, you can keep a detailed record of each item by its seal number as it is being loaded onto the truck or trailer or into storage, and then check them off at the other end or when you later return, so items cannot be tampered with or stolen from you and go unnoticed because you got busy or tired during your move! And you can easily document exactly what items are missing or tampered with for claims purposes. And by relying on seal number ranges to manage where your containers go, you can easily and quickly populate rooms and storage areas at your destination with the appropriate containers without having to open any. Again, these industrial-grade seals are inexpensive - less than 10% of the cost of buying even a modest easily bypassed padlock for each of the items and containers you want to protect during your move, storage or shipping.

To survive these days, you practically have to be paranoid - far too many bizarre, dangerous, violent and illegal activities are going on all the time! Home invasions and theft crimes - especially pilferage crimes - are increasing and becoming more brazen. If you want to protect your own safety and your children's safety, and keep what is yours, you MUST increase your personal safety and your security. These industrial safety seals / security seals not only greatly help prevent thefts and privacy invasions but also violent acts perpetrated by violent criminals and terrorists secretly accessing homes, businesses, vehicles, storage areas. And to prevent industrial espionage, sabotage, vandalism, contamination and identity theft. And to prevent surveillance snoops from secretly planting listening devices and miniature cameras, recorders and transmitters (surveillance countermeasures) in rooms and vehicles you use.

When you use seals to seal your home or business, every door, window and other possible entry point should be secured with a seal (keep record of seal numbers with you because even if the crook or stalker uses a similar replacement seal (these particular seals are not known to be commonly available in stores), his seal will have a different number). And when you must leave your valuable items in the hands of someone else or unattended - even for a few minutes - you should use seals to make sure that when you get the items back they have not been rummaged through or, in cases of briefcases, file boxes, computers, internal/external memory storage units, etc., critical data has not been stolen or compromised.

As an Online Seller, we also use these invaluable seals to verify that items we ship, if later returned to us, are the very same items - especially for items that don't come with their serial numbers (some crooked Online buyers buy new or much better condition replacements of junk items they own so that they can then "return" their junk items for refunds). We attach the seal to the body of the Item or wrap the flexible seal a couple of times around the power cord or other cable (so seal cannot be slipped off of the cord without cutting off the connector). More than one seal can be joined together end-to-end to make a larger diameter seal loop if that is needed, for example, to encircle equipment. Also, you can loop seals together to form a seal chain (i.e. seal daisy chain) so that the seals will secure the protected item to a more distant tie-down point, to connect up two or more protected items, or to seal large girth items where the needed seal length exceeds the length of one seal. You can also use the seals as sort of a "keychain" type device for keeping together and keeping track of like items. And of course the seals can also be used for many of the general uses that plastic tie-wraps are now used for (e.g. they are just the right size for bundling power cords and computer cords).

These seals have practically unlimited other uses, not all security or safety related. Some examples:

To identify and keep track of the location of things for inhouse uses, such as company tools, equipment, materials and supplies distributed to employees and contractors or out on site, and to quickly identify and keep track of your items in situations, for example, where there are multiple employees or contractors on one site.

(2) To group and identify individual, bundles or groups of wires, cables, electrical leads, ropes, ribbons, chains, rods, tubes, pipes, long metal/wood/plastic shop stock, etc.: Huge variety of uses of these seals as wire markers, cable markers, electrical lead markers, rope markers, ribbon markers, chain markers, rod markers, tube markers, pipe markers, shop stock markers. As described above, if the girth of the item or bundle is small, the seal can encircle it more than once, and if the girth is big, two or more seals can be daisy-chained together to encompass the item. With the unique seal numbers, you can then clearly document which item goes with which equipment, system or routing it must go with, so costly confusions and mix-ups are minimized and unauthorized substitutions can be detected.

(4) These seals are ideal in situations where for privacy or secrecy reasons you want to conceal the names of persons or items and yet still be able to uniquely identify them and keep track of them, for examples, for medical examination / medical testing, investigative, etc. reasons.

(6) These uniquely numbered seals are also a great means of conducting votes, contests, lotteries, door prizes and as use as uniquely numbered tickets to events and activities.

(7) One person bought some from us because they make, "cool bracelets," and that he would like to make them, "the rage of his school."

(8) These seals can also be used for many and varied arts, crafts and game purposes as they are bright red, attractive and unique in appearance. One person uses them in a horseshoe-like game as tossing hoops to go around pegs labeled with various values. Another uses a few each year as Christmas tree ornaments.

Used and in very good condition. Heavy-Duty Steel Boat Mooring / Tie-Down Fixture / Jig, chrome-plated, likely for boat dockings and boat anchorings. While two mooring jigs are in the images to show the jigs views and settings, this sale is for one boat moor / tie-down device jig. The front extension part is spring-loaded and retractable, and is locked IN or OUT by a push-in action. Our best guess is that this is a boat tie-down or mooring fixture, but we are not certain. While it is likely used as a boat moor for docking boats or anchoring boats, it has many other possible uses as well, for example, this Device makes a very strong Push-On / Push-Off Deadbolt Lock for doors, gates, windows, etc. Just add a bracket to receive and hold the bolt, or chisel out a receiving space. And it can be used as a spring-loaded clamp, holder or press.

We don't know the original purpose for the dual-position feature, other than perhaps to apply or relieve tightness of the tied rope, cable or chain. If you know what this device is really used for, please freely let us know. While heavy-duty, chrome plated and very good quality, it has no make or model markings on it.

Boat mooring jig is 5-3/4" long when compressed, 6-1/2" when expanded. Height is 2-3/4". Width of main body is 1-11/16". Width of front extension (T-handle) is 3-1/8", 3/4" high, 1/4" thick. Width at feet is 3-1/2". Side-to-side spacing width of 1/4" feet holes is 2-1/2", and hole spacing front-to-back is 3-1/4" (both center-to-center hole distances). Front pair of feet are 3/8" higher than back pair, which if you need to can compensate for with nuts or washers. Center hole in back is 7/16" dia. Weight is about 1-3/4 lbs.

THE SURVIVOR AND HIS ENVIRONMENT

The survivor's mission is to return to friendly control without giving aid or comfort to the en�emy; to return early and in good physical and mental condition. The continuing, successful adaptation to a constantly changing environment leads to a completed mission�survival.

In a sense, the seven factors (figure 1-1) which affect an individual in a survival situation are, at the outset, neutral. The situation and the man's abilities, needs, and attitudes make the factors friendly or inimical. As an example, extreme cold, one of the climatic elements, is usually thought of as being a serious danger to a man in an emergency situation on the ground. An in�dividual finding himself in enemy territory would find the cold (if he knew how to take care of himself) a friend because it would tend to keep enemy personnel indoors close to their hearth-fires thus giving him a better opportunity to evade. Climatic elements and terrain are always pres�ent in one way or another. Thirst can very quickly become a serious factor. These high-quality, well-manufactured, rugged aluminum or steel industrial-grade 9 VDC battery (9V radio battery) clips/holders, while originally not designed to hold batteries but for a different use, these clips securely and snugly hold 9-volt batteries into place. We use a ton of these highly versatile 9V battery holders / 9V battery clips in electronic equipment we build, often to replace existing 9VDC battery holders / 9VDC battery clips in equipment used in our electronic laboratories and shops, and for a very wide variety of other holding, securing, hanging, guide, joining applications for the many other parts, tools, prototype boards, rods, small pipes and cabling which conveniently fit into them.

These 9-volt battery clips can mount batteries in any orientation, and adapt to all kinds of battery clip mounting constraints found in equipment: They can be mounted in any of the 3 axes, and they can hold the battery or other part either on its side or its end. There is a bottom tab in the middle of both sides of the holder, about 1/2" x 1/2" each. Either or both of these tabs can be drilled or punched for a mounting screw or pop rivet hole to mount them on the side or bottom of a project box. And either or both tabs or sides can also be bent out at 90 degrees for flat mounting on the side or bottom of a chassis. And either or both tabs or sides can be sawed off or even broken off with pliers (by bending the tabs up and down several times to induce metal fatigue). The battery clip center or ends can also be punched or drilled for mounting a pop rivet or screw to mount it without the tabs. Or the battery holder can be simply cemented into place or tied in place using tiewrap.

By squeezing in the holder/clip sides, you can considerably stiffen the grip on the battery or other part to prevent it from falling out under even rugged handling of your enclosure (we even mounted one as a test to the underside of a car and it kept the battery in place for 6 months until we removed it); and by pulling the sides slightly more apart, you can considerably loosen the grip on the battery or other part for more easy placement of it. Changing the distances between the sides also allows the clip to be used with parts of varying sizes and shapes. For thinner items, you can use wood, plastic, rubber or cardstock spacers to help secure electronic parts and other parts using these holders. And for thicker items, you can cut off or bend away one side of each of two holders, and then space the holders apart the right distance to accommodate the thicker item.

These holders are so versatile, you should keep at least several in each of your work areas. Aside from holding not only batteries but numerous other small parts, two or more can be used to securely hold, separate and/or route long items, like rods, pipes, tubing, cabling and wiring. And they can be easily used to secure adjacent flat items together in several ways. They are very versatile for many, many uses.

Battery and battery terminals (i.e. battery connectors) are not included. CAUTION: As with all items made from sheet metal, handle with care as getting cuts is always possible if you are not careful, and always of course work safely, including using gloves and protective eyewear, facewear, apron, etc.
