In the May 2008 issue of "Electronic Products," they show a silicon optical sensor IC which has a very similar looking transparent body. Do you know what they are? They are also very pretty looking, and could certainly be used for jewelry, crafts, hobbies, model-making, etc. applications.

Great EPITAXX EPM606-250 photodiode detectors! we bought several of these new (in sealed bubble pack as shown) precision Epitaxx photodiode detectors from a scientific laboratory supplier. It is hard to see this device in the image. On the left part of the image is a magnified photo of the body of one. Connected to the top end is several feet of fine, almost invisible fiber optic cable. In the package view, the body of the device, about 3/4" long and about 3/16" diameter shaped like a bullet (almost looks like a 22 long) is barely visible in the lower left hand of the package (view mostly blocked by the label). The fiber optic cable is wrapped up several layers thick in the rest of the package. R= 0.92 A/W (@ 1625 nm). R= 0.88 A/W (@ 1550 nm). Id = 0.059 nA (@ 5.0V). Rb = -52 db (@ 1550nm). Cd=0.600pf (@ 5.0V)

RARE TAYLOR-MERCHANT MICRO-VIEWER,
AMBIENT MODEL, 2X MAGNIFIER, FOCUS ADJUST

Used and in great condition. Very high quality. While this rare, vintage Taylor-Merchant Ambient Model Micro-Viewer Magnifier (2X) was originally intended to view photo slides, it also works great with stamps, currency, documentation, leaves, fingerprint liftings, and virtually everything else which is flat, thin and transparent or translucent. If you are looking for a critical photo details, watermark, buried feature, printer's defect, bogus signature - the Taylor-Merchant Micro-Viewer may be ideal for you. Not recommended for lottery tickets. This works by sliding the thin item to be viewed between the two sandwiched pieces to underneath the lens (left image), then holding the backside window (right image) up to a strong light (or use a light table), and then viewing the object through the lens, positioning it as required. Area of object to be viewed can be upto 4.25" away from the edge of the object. Adjustable focus allows you to focus in on embedded features, and 2X magnification is for greater detail. The Taylor-Merchant Micro-Viewer comes in a like-new handsome leather case which can also be used to store other things if you wish.

Used big convex lens. This clear glass lens is 4-1/2" x 6-3/4", and about 3/4" thick in center (1/8" on edges)". Magnification appears to be about 3X. Salvaged from a photocopier. There are a few minor scratches and dings on the lens but these can probably be polished off with pumice or machinist rouge while you are watching TV or something. As is, the lens is mediocre for constant reading applications, but works great as a sun focuser.

Used and apparently in great condition. Had some dust on the barrel, which we cleaned off. We don't have an idea of what this thing does. Do you? we bought it at an estate sale in a box filled with very expensive precision photographic equipment. Has a Sandia Corp. label on it, which probably means it was used in some kind of laser application. Since we don't know what it is, we can't guarantee function. We can say that all of its parts that are supposed to turn, turn easily and smoothly.

BIG ADJUSTABLE FOCUS LENS MOUNTING PLATE

Used and in great condition. Delta 18-0C, Rev. B, big adjustable focus lens mounting plate. This rear projection lens came off of a big screen TV, which was working great, but we disassembled to convert cabinet into nice bookshelf. Can be used for various mechanical and optical project applications. Above is listed the rear projection lens. Image shows top and bottom of lens mounting plate. While these painted lens mounting plates are heavy, they are not ferromagnetic.

Telephoto lens is new or like new condition. FT80 telephoto lens is 4.5" long, 1.25" wide at the top. It has a flippable base with both a camera screw threaded hole and a camera screw with a knob spaced 2" from the hole, which means you don't sacrifice a camera mount to use it. Would also make an excellent spotter scope except image is upside down (2.2 magnification) - very clear and sharp image.

Used, lens is in good condition and base is in fair condition. While the base of the copier lens / projector lens has chunks missing from it, scuffing and scratches, the lens is large and appears to be in good condition. Magnification is 2X, and focal length is very short - great for examining and photographing (through the lens) documents, currency, and other relatively thin, flat items. Probably taken from an old copier.

Used and in excellent working condition. Model PM1A Color Analyzer by Beseler. User manual is sold Online, but Beseler color analyzer is so easy to operate that you don't really need the user manual. All you do is select the color, using the color selection switch (top, left of colored dots) and place the colored image over the small hole on the white square (between arrows, top middle). You then adjust the appropriate color tuning knob (bottom) until the meter is centered. You then record the number for that color. You then select the next color, and repeat. And repeat two more times, until you have done the 3 colors and white (brightness). If you do a lot of painting, whether that be house painting or art painting, or fabric color is important to you, the Beseler PM1A Color Analyzer is ideal for matching your colors. Also great for matching, analyzing and setting photographic color images. You simply compare the 4 Beseler numbers for the color you want to match with your paint mixture, fabric color or image color, and then you can tell just how close the match is. Your eyes are virtually certain not to be as discriminating as this PM1A Color Analyzer by Beseler. If approaching perfection and quality of your work are important to you, this color analyzer is ideal for you.

This fascinating flashlight demonstrates the generation of electrical energy using an electrical generated that converts mechanical energy (i.e. the squeezing of the flashlight handle) into electrical energy, and then into light energy (i.e. the flashlight output). The squeeze handle is connected to a fascinating gear and flywheel assembly which drives the dynamo. There is no battery as the flywheel stores the energy. The faster you squeeze, the faster the flywheel turns, and the greater the intensity of the light and the longer the light stays on after you stop squeezing. Great for classroom and scientific demonstration and science fairs. Also great for field, backup or emergency use as you never need a battery, and therefore, you never have to worry about the timing and cost of battery replacements. Of course, this device can be disassembled by removing the screws and then modified to charge a battery, or to provide some other type of electrical or mechanical function. Used and in very good condition. Rare, very high quality metal construction with faceted type bezel glass. The left image shows what the two colors are when a light shows through them. The right image shows what they look like on their sides and bottoms. They are threaded at the base, and they require a 9/16" round hole. These were salvaged from very expensive military equipment. While about 80% of my supply are red and 20% purple, If you specify how many of the 9 you wish to be red or purple, we will try to provide those proportions; however, we cannot guarantee what % of each color you will get.

Used and worksfine. This strobe is in a heavy duty steel chassis case, similar to the types of chassis and cases that HP and Tektronix builds their very high quality electronic test equipment into. The device is not labeled (no boilerplate), and we don't know who makes it or for what purposes it was made (when we bought it a few years ago, we was told that it originally came from Sandia Labs and used for multi-color laser applications like holography, but we can't verify this). We have had limited uses for it.

I do know that the device works fine, and produces a series of extremely brilliant pulsed lights. By adjusting the flash speed way down, it appears to us that red, green and blue flashes occur successively. This device contains what looks like to us three very expensive light sources of different colors and a set up of various mirrors, glass plates that allow half of the light to go through and half to be reflected (half-silvered, filters?), and lenses. It has a standard SCSI connector in the back. We have no documentation on it, and we don't know the pin-out of the SCSI, but more than likely, it was for a computer hook-up. Not shown but on center of the bottom of the device is a sturdy steel plate screwed in with a threaded hole, apparently so the device could easily be mounted on a photographic tripod. It is 15.75" x 7" x 5.5".

The first image set is of a photo taken from the front while the device was operating, and photos of the front and back of the device when it was turned Off. The second image is a photo of the device taken while operating, in the dark, and with my camera flash Off. The third image set is a photo from each side of the lamp/mirror area with device Off to try to show the arrangement of the lamps and glass plates. The fourth image set is a photo top view of the device Off, and a photo top view with of the device with its cover in place.

Strobes have many uses, not the least of which is for dances and discos, for timing, for setting and determining rotational speeds and linear velocities, as a self-defense and anti-burglary device, in video, photography and holography, for special effects, for signaling and rudimentary communications, in biomedical research, and in mind control, electronic attack, brain entrainment and biofeedback research. In very good condition. Please do not stare into this light - it is very brilliant. It makes for one spectacular light show!

Used American Optical (AO) lamp assembly, and in excellent operating condition. Intensity is adjustable (4-position rotary switch). Great for the laboratory or shop for illuminating specimens, microscope slides, circuit boards, small installations, collections, displays, etc. Very high quality.

Professional Time-O-Lite Darkroom Timer, Model P-72, industrial timer. Used and works great. This is an photographic enlarger timer with outlets for safelight, enlarger and remote start (footswitch not included). This can be used for many timing applications from photographic development, to cooking, to running experiments, to timing tests and examinations. The safelight is off when the enlarger is switched on. Timer goes to 60 seconds and the face glows in the dark. It is designed to either be hung on a wall or sit on a table. Made by Industrial Timer Corporation, Parsippany, NJ. 120 volts, 60 hertz, 1000 watts. No rust but some scratches on the bottom and back.

New. We got this device at an estate sale. We don't know what it does. It has precision lens and mirrors inside of it. The connector is a 4-pin DIN connector. There is no model number or boiler plate on it. It has a label that says, "AO", which most probably means Acousto-Optic." Someone told us that this is a photo adapter and shutter for use with the AO 1190 Expostar exposure control. Do you know what this thing is?

Prinz Variable Slide Copier. Used. We have no way of being able to mount it to test it but in every way it appears to be fully functional. It has a few scuff marks.

Used and in great condition. Precision laser mount / laser leveller, NRC Model 811. This scientific instrumentation is made by Newport Corporation. Has two precise vernier adjustments for great precison and repeatability. One adjusts the tilt and one adjusts the azimuth. Originally designed to level lasers, it can also be adapted for use with some Dremel-type drills, camera lens, drill presses, milling machine, telescopes, mirrors, lenses, rifle barrels, etc. Tube has a 3/8" center hole at the top, which makes it ideal for drill presses and milling machines to access. Really useful laboratory instrumentation. Base is 3-7/8" x 3". Tube is 3" long, with 1-3/4" inner diameter.

I got this at an estate sale. There is nothing stamped on it to indicate who made it and what exactly is it for. It has a long coiled cable terminated with a RJ-45 connector (same type of connector called an "Ethernet connector"). A band on the cable has the numbers above printed on it. That is all we know. Do you know what it is or who made it? we figure that it is either a laser pointer or a dental curing wand (for quickly curing some types of dental cements). We have only one.

(Currently out - expect more soon). RKI white halogen track lighting head with Phillips halogen bulb. Great for the home, shop, laboratory and professional office. Sale is for one RKI track head. This lighting fixture can swivel and tilt. These very high quality RKI track lights typically sell in stores for $19 - $30 each (when you can find them). They appear to be new, and all tested fine. We have only these 3 left. These RKI track lighting heads have a standard base, which will fit track lighting tracks sold at Home Depot and elsewhere (Hampton Bay and other brands). Base has a slide down collar; you slip the nib into the track, you then twist it 90 degrees and the collar slips up a bit and locks it into place. Track is a standard 3-wire grounded fixture. Track head accepts standard-base halogen bulbs. 610543 E204150 E204135 EE059F are the part numbers associated with all of these RKI track light heads. These 7" tall heads have 4.25" x 1.25" x 1.75" base.
