Used and in very good condition. 7-1/4" Tweezers Hand Clamp for delicate work and for small screws and parts. Modified Angled Reverse Action Tweezers. This tool is made from a high-quality squeeze-to-open tweezers (angled reverse action tweezers), and spring steel slotted blades. Note that the blades are very securely cemented on using epoxy/steel cement (can be used in water, but avoid using with high heat). Blades are angled about 20 degrees, and can be used pointing up, pointing down or pointing sideways. Handles are insulated wood or plastic for greater comfort and electrical insulation and thermal insulation. We find these special modified tweezers great for securely handling and working on small, valuable objects and collectibles you don't want to handle with your bare fingers (e.g. gems, jewels, coins, stamps, paper money, collection insects, small fossils, and small parts). Great for collectors, jewelers, watch and clock repairers, electronic engineers, electronic technicians, craft people, modelers, forensic examiners, paleontologists, archaeologists, botanists, biologists. The held parts may be held, moved, positioned and/or worked on using this special tool.

We find one particular use especially valuable to us: With this tool, you can much more easily and securely start and remove small screws - virtually eliminating dropping or losing small screws and other irreplaceable or costly small parts. To start a screw, you simply place the screw head between the blades. Then you position the screw over the screw hole using the tool. Then you use a small screw driver to turn the screw head between the top blade slot until the screw firmly catches, then slide the tool off the screw, then screw all the way down. To remove a small screw, you unscrew the screw until you can snugly slip the tool blades under and over the screw head. Then, with the screw now secured by the tool, you continue unscrewing through the top blades slot until screw is removed. You then securely deposit the removed screw.

CRAFTSMAN VACUUM BASE VISE TOOL
2 Double-Vertical "V" Notches, 1 Double-Horizontal "V" Notch

Used and in very good condition. Craftsman Vacuum Base Vise Tool. Made in USA. Opens to 2". Jaws are steel 2-1/2" wide, 5/8" deep. Both screw and guide bar are 1/2" dia. A big advantage of this vise is that it is especially great for working on round stock (tubing, pipe, round rod, wires, etc.) of the popular 1/8" - 1/2" dia range, and for working on odd-shaped pieces of about the same girth. That's because it has two double-vertical "V" notches ("V" grooves) and one double-horizontal "V" notch. To firmly grip any object that is not flat in a vise requires at least 3 contact points with the jaws. If you have only 2 contact points (ie: flat vise jaws), the non-flat object will deform and/or rotate and/or move around when you try to work on it. Because this vise uses double notches (rare vise feature), it provides 4 contact points - much better than 3 contact points (ie: single-notch vises) - it firmly holds round and odd-shaped objects in place for even rough mechanical work on them. This very popular vise also has a rubber base that allows you to firmly attach the vise to smooth surfaces because it applies a strong vacuum to the surface. The advantage of a vacuum base is that it allows you to relatively quickly, easily and firmly attach the vise, change the vise's position, and move the vise to other surfaces (great for portability), plus it does not damage the surface it is placed on. We have found that if any rubber gets dry, rub baby oil into it to restore its flexibility.

Versatile Butt-Welding Clamp Set Tool, 8 steel clamps (zinc plated to resist rust), also great for general Leveling Clamping uses for sheet metal, wood panels and boards, plastic panels, etc. - including all other flat parts, even if small, just as long as the mating edges are big enough for at least one clamp to fit. Each clamp body is about 1" x 1" x 1". These clamps maintain a minimum 0.04" gap between the panels - ideal gap for welds, brazes, solders and cements to best hold sheets, plates or panels together. Can be set up for gaps up to about 0.75" (3/4") maximum if you need wider gaps (e.g. for inserting other parts or materials into the gaps, or installing hinges or hasps), and you can vary gap widths along the seam between 0.04" and 0.75".

These clamps are great for holding together edge-to-edge and securing adjacent sheets, plates and panels of materials and parts 0.001" - 0.25" (1/4") thick for welding, brazing, soldering, cementing or taping. By changing the crossbars for a thinner ones, or by grinding down the crossbars in their middle, you can increase thickness of clamped materials up to about 3/8".

You can also use these clamps to join materials and parts together of different thicknesses simply by inserting a spacer(s) or shim(s) between the thinner item and the clamps to make it about same total thickness as is thicker item (spacers and shims are not included with this sale). You can also use these clamps to join different types of materials or parts together. And you can also use these clamps to permanently or temporarily hold single items or multiple things together for (later) disassembly, modification, moving, arranging, transportation and storage (e.g. partitions, displays, stage scenery, set-ups, experimental assemblies).

These butt-welding clamps are also great as flattening clamps to help you flatten small areas of thin sheet metal, plastic sheeting and cardstock that have bulges, depressions, wrinkles or tear-throughs in them, thus requiring minimum work with hammers and pliers to repair (which usually require disassembly, and tend to leave tool marks). If the area needing repairs does not already have a big enough tear, make a thin opening big enough for the clamp blade to go thru. The clamp body should be on the side with the raised area. Once the clamp(s) is installed, carefully and slowly tighten the clamp to flatten the raised area. Apply welding, brazing, soldering, cement or tape if needed. These clamps are very useful flattening tools for items which are damaged because they were shot, cut, stabbed, torn, folded, warped, or involved in a car or industrial accident.

FAST, EASY, SIMPLE TO USE:
      (1) Place and accurately align the two material edges adjacent to each other, leaving a gap of 0.04" - 0.75" between them (use a gap that best fits your needs, and gap can vary end-to-end within that range).
      (2) Open up the clamps you need using their thumbscrews. While loosening, remove the crossbars at the bottom, and place them in a safe place. Make sure the screws are lubricated.
      (3) Space and center the clamp blocks over the middle of the gap, sliding the clamp blades into middle of gap.
      (4) On the underside of the work, slide the cross bars back in one at a time, then turn down the thumbscrew of each clamp to hold snugly but not tight.
      (5) Then adjust the two panels together to make sure that your alignment and gap are exactly what you need.
      (6) Then tighten down the thumb screws to hand tight; it is usually best to do the two end clamps first.
      (7) Then apply weld, braze, solder, cement or tape along the exposed part of gap, at least enough needed between the clamps to secure the two pieces together. Spot welding is typical welding method to secure steel pieces.
      (8) After the weld, braze, solder or cement has cured, loosen the thumb screws, remove the cross bars, slide out the clamps, then store the clamps and cross bars. Then weld, braze, solder, cement or tape the spaces left along the gap, and allow it to cure again before moving or using.

Pair of very versatile Foot-Long (11-7/8") Magnetic Vise Jaws / Vice Jaws, handmade in USA from 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" x 1/8" angle aluminum (1-1/4" on the outsides, 1-1/8" on the insides). Magnetic material is 1/2" x 1/4" strongly magnetized plastic magnet strip, cemented full length to the aluminum angle with silicone rubber cement. Additionally, the magnetic strips provide added cushioning of sensitive objects. Because the magnetic strips are both full-length and cuttable, you can do-it-yourself cut your own vise jaws to the sizes you need when you need them - great for creating your own customized magnetic vise jaws to fit your various vises and clamps or for your various light-to-medium vise or clamp jobs. These magnetized vise jaws can also be cut to fit some clamp jaws and pliers jaws.

If you wish, you can cut these magnetized vise jaws into standard jaw sizes or oddball sizes, and you can cement your own materials and forms on the jaw fronts to suit your particular needs. You can cut short pieces to make vise jaw stops for light vise jaw stop jobs (jaw stops are normally costly to buy and limited to certain vise shapes). And you are not limited to horizontal placement of your short pieces - they can be used along the vertical edges of your vises. You can also overlap jaws to add jaw strength, cushioning and/or thickness. You can also notch your do-it-yourself vise jaws in numerous different ways to make vise jaw jigs - great for optimally holding and/or guiding odd-shaped objects and for repetive jobs using the same shaped objects.

The magnets are strong, and each foot-long jaw is oppositely magnetized. This means that when the jaws are on a vise for clamping, they hold the clamped object more tightly because the jaws magnetically attract each other in the vise through the clamped object, thereby requiring less torque force from mechanical clamping alone - even if the clamped object is not iron or steel, but especially if object is iron or steel. In fact, you can use these magnetic jaws without any vise or clamp at all to hold and position objects due to the attractive magnetic force alone between the jaws, for examples, to get objects to stand which would normally fall over, to stabilize unstable objects, and to impromptu position objects for photographing, displaying, painting, decorating, sanding, etc. To do this, the jaws are placed upside down on a flat surface (ie: non-magnet jaw sides down on surface, which need not be of iron or steel) with the magnet sides facing each other, placing the object between the facing magnetic sides.

Note: When magnetic jaws are positioned with the magnets on tops of the vise, height of the vise jaws is increased by 3/8" - great for increasing depth of shallow vises when you need the extra depth.

Cut or uncut, these very versatile magnetized jaws have many other purposes as well. For examples:
(1) As edging for iron or steel sheets or plates, table tops, desk tops, file cabinets, equipment, etc., for safety reasons, to prevent objects on surfaces from falling or rolling off, as a stand, as a straight edge, etc.
(2) When used on horizontal and vertical iron or steel surfaces, these magnetic jaws can be arranged as frames, guides, holders and extensions.

Note: Our hard-to-get and costly magnetic strip is very strong for magnetic strip material. It is NOT the weak, cheezo magnetic strip commonly sold and used for fridge magnets.

Used and in very good condition, functionally perfect, some scuffing when made. One pair of Versatile Shop Handmade Pinching Vise Jaws Vise/Vice / Clamp / Gripper / Holder / Positioning Tool, which also includes the two 12" threaded rods with nuts (spacing for the threaded rod holes is 4-1/2"). These vise jaws open up to 1" wide and close completely. Depth of jaw openings is up to 1". The bodies of these vise jaws / clamp are aluminum, the brackets and adjustment hardware are steel, and body and bracket are firmly bonded to each other using epoxy cement (vise jaws are not recommended for welding, furnace or other operations where they themselves get very hot). Each vice jaw has two thumb-type adjustment screws, which means that the jaws will firmly vise, clamp, hold, grip and position both flat and tapered surfaces (up to about 5 degrees of taper).

This is a very versatile vise / clamp tool. And it is the rare type of tool that can do jobs that either no other tool is designed to do or is normally done by using a very costly special tool dedicated to that one job. By hooking up the two vise jaws with the threaded rods thru the bracket holes, you have a full vise, the jaws of which are independently adjusted to or away from each other using the standoff nuts on the threaded rods. Or the vise jaws can be used without the threaded rods, for example, on top of a vise by draping the brackets over the vise's jaws. These vise jaws can be used together or independently, and spacing between them can be from a fraction of an inch to yards. Uses are practically unlimited; our greatest uses of these vise jaws are:
       (1) To stretch and pull objects which tend to roll up or fold or are wrinkled. Great for painting, cementing, soldering, working on, experimenting on, cleaning, treating, drying, curing, displaying, positioning or photographing difficult objects like paintings, scrolls, important documents, fabrics, etc. We normally do this by attaching one of the vise jaws at each end of the object. We then secure the top vise jaw at the top of a door and let the object hang freely with the attached weight of the bottom vise jaw to keep it smooth and flat (we use a modified method for fragile objects).
       (2) It is usually very difficult to join two thinner objects along their edges butted up against each other. Every other method tends to result in misalignment, slipping and ruining the work. With these pinching vise jaws, you can precisely position, and then securely and tightly butt-up the two edges and then stitch, tape, staple, wire across, cement, solder, braze or weld them together. These pinching vise jaws work just as great if the edge of one of the objects must overlap, lay on top of or hook onto the edge of the second object.
       (3) As a very widemouth general clamp for cementing flat or tapered objects together.

Nickel and black oxide plated to resist rust (don't buy the zinc ones sold elsewhere). The utility of W-type welding pliers go far beyond welding uses. Also great to clamp two or more same or different objects together (e.g. sheet metal sheets, paneling sheets, edging to sheet metal or paneling, plastic sheets, composite sheets, plates, leather, fabrics, circuit boards, etc.) to temporarily hold and press them together for spot welding, brazing, soldering, cementing, taping, screwing, riveting, nailing or stapling (which the two 1/2"-wide tyne openings are ideal for four precision fastener placements), W-type welding plier clamps are a must for the shop working guy or gal! If the glass is fairly thick, good quality, undamaged, the tynes on the W-clamp are covered with rubber, leather, naugahyde, fabric or soft plastic (e.g. heat shrink tubing), and gentle pressure is used, we believe the W-clamps would also likely work on flat glass, but experiment first on expendable glass. For woods and some plastics, the cap can be secured on using a nail or wood screw through the top hole as shown (hole can be enlarged for larger nails or screws). For metals, woods and plastics, steel cap can (also) be cemented or glued on. End cap can be removed and re-used/saved once the tool, broom, brush or other object is worn out or if broken. Great for hanging many different kinds of objects - even heavy objects (e.g. hammers, serving utensils, lawn tools). Also, the cap top is smooth and strong, so also great for pushing on the object or moderate hammering of the object, such as a chisel, punch, scraper, screwdriver or knife. We cemented these steel caps onto the screw ends of 4 of our larger Vise Grip pliers so we can conveniently hang the pliers plus provide greater leverage and comfort in turning the Vise Grip screw. Another great use for these steel caps is to use them to replace rotating disks (which often break off) of "C" clamp screw ends. The cap can also be used as the strong business end of a tool, such as for mashing, crushing, dimpling, dappling, burnishing, wiggling (wigglers are hole center-finding tools). The end cap can also be used at the end of tools in ball-and-socket applications, where a laboratory clamp can act as the socket. These steel caps protect the ends of important objects from abrasion, wear, water damage and mechanical damage. If the object's end diameter is too small for a snug fit, expand it out using heatshrink or other tubing, or tape, or first install a smaller cap, tube or standoff. New old stock (NOS). Strongly Magnetized Magnetic Strip, 1/2" wide, 1/4" thick. Mag Strip back is non-adhesive and is also strongly magnetic, therefore double-sided magnet strip. Magnetic Strip is sold here in 5-feet increments. This stuff is great! You cut off the sizes you need for your particular uses. We measured the magnetic pull strength to be 12.75 ounces per square inch in direct contact with iron, which is a much more practical and useful way of rating magnetic strength for many uses than is Gauss or Tesla.

NOTE: Be very careful when you buy magnetic items Online where you cannot actually test the magnetic item yourself prior to purchase. Even the magnetic strength of reputable commercial magnetic strip varies greatly - strongest mag strip can be 3+ times stronger than weakest. With shady dealers, the variation can exceed an order of magnitude (10+), with some mag strip so weak it can barely hold up razor blades or stick to a fridge - much less hold up a sturdy steel sign, pliers or knives. If you need very weak magnetic strip, then buy from them. Otherwise, if the seller does not describe directly in his/her ad what the magnetic strength is in terms that you clearly understand with an actual value as we did above, then based on our experiences, you should strongly reconsider any decision to buy. Terms like, "strong," "powerful", "commercial strength," "industrial strength" and similar have no meaning unless backed up by an actual understandable numerical value. In 80+% of our experiences at remotely buying magnetic strips, the "magnetic strips" we received were so extremely weak as to be useless for anything but holding razor blades and paper clips. In fact, when we complained about one big dealer of mag strip using an unsubstantiated magnetic strength term in his ad, he laughably claimed that the term did not apply to the magnetic strength of his mag strip (which was only slightly more magnetic than wood), but to the "commercial strength" glue of his mag strip self-adhesive backing (which was also extremely weak).

This plastic-matrix strip magnetic material is extremely versatile as well as strong. In addition to adhering to steel and iron surfaces, it can also be cut or sawed (each piece retains its magnetic properties), drilled, nailed or screwed (drill a pilot hole first), sanded and polished, shaped and molded to fit rounded surfaces, painted (use a paint which adheres to plastic surfaces), and glued and cemented (common silicone rubber cement works well on most surfaces). Its uses are practically endless from holding up tools, utensils, parts, signs and displayis, to keeping cabinet and other doors closed, to picking up dropped or stored small iron and steel objects (e.g. screws, bolts, nuts, nails, tacks, pins, etc.), to holding blades and bits, to holding parts together during disassemblies and assemblies, to holding glue jobs together, etc. We are constantly finding how very useful and handy this magnetic strip is. Great for every type of shop and laboratory, crafts person, modeler, hobbyist, business person, mechanic, machinist, scientist, engineer, technician, experimenter, do-it-yourself handyman / handywoman, etc. Great for science projects and science fairs. Great for studying the properties of magnets. Major uses we have at Consumertronics (Albuquerque, NM) and Lone Star Consulting, Inc. (El Paso, TX) is to cut-to-length and cement pieces of magnetic strip to the bottoms of our vises so they adhere to our metal work surfaces, and also to cement magnetic strip to pieces of angle iron and angle aluminum to make specialized vise jaws (much cheaper than buying vise jaws). You definitely should keep lengths of this magnetic strip in all of your work areas and tool containers, as we do.

Please note that while many steels are almost as attractive to magnets as iron because almost all of the steel is iron, other steels are not very magnetic. In fact, some steels used in tools, utensils and parts are only weakly magnetic, and may require rare-earth magnets to hold - not magnetic strip. Our tests are done using iron commonly found in such things as nails and iron plate, and 12.75 ounces of magnetic pull per square inch of contact with these surfaces holds securely most hand tools and utensils. Anvil part of clamp has a groove, which is great for holding and securing round objects (e.g. tubes, pipes, rods) and odd-shaped objects (e.g. stones, assembly parts). Steel pot is 2-1/2" tall, 4-5/8"dia top, 4" dia bottom, 3/16" wall thickness. Comfortable handle is 3" wide. This nut cracker easily disassembles into the upper unit and the pot for easy cleaning and storage, simply by pulling them apart. With the valve stem in place, you can play around with this fascinating yet very useful and versatile tool to learn how it works, and its various adjustments. Makes a great self-learning tool and teaching tool. You can use locking pliers or a low-speed drill (neither is included) to turn the held object. The clamp is set so that the object is held into position snugly but turns with little resistance (we use oil or grease on the clamp). Note that the position and angle of the chamfer groove, bevel or taper can be adjusted by changing the position of the cutter tool holder. Used and in very good condition. This antique tool was originally made as a Valve Stem Seat Cutter, Model 3V-1A (make unknown). It is also a very Versatile Steel Vise / Clamp Tool Holder / File Holder / Rod Holder / Tube Holder / Pipe Holder / Shaft Holder Jig Handtool. Body is 4" x 2-3/4" x 1-3/4". The main clamp bar is grooved, and the two "fingers" it contacts with have deep "V" notches - great for holding pipes, tubes, rods, stems, shafts 3/16" - 5/8" dia, and also odd-shaped objects. The diagonal square clamp feature is for holding a tool, likely a file, or chisel or other cutting tool; this square clamp can be removed (and replaced with any tool or tool holder that you can get to fit) or its angle changed (from about 25 degrees to 90+ degrees, has position markings for 30 degrees and 45 degrees); and it comes clamping a small hard steel lightly magnetized cutting edge. The screw on the left is about centered on a clamped object if object is 1/4" - 1/2" dia., and can be precisely advanced or retracted to adjust held object position.

Our unique and important uses of it are:
(1) Press-fitting a cap or top onto or a pin into a pipe, tube, rod or shaft object securely clamped down by main clamp.
(2) As a mini-lathe. This is done by securing a cutting tool at the right angle (using the diagonal square clamp), and then lightly securing the pipe, tube, rod or shaft object in the main clamp where it will still fairly freely rotate, then attaching a hand vise or power drill to the right end of the object, turning the hand vise or drill On while pushing the object's left end onto the secured file / chisel / other cutting tool, or against the left screw.

Other Possible (untested) Uses of this jig:
          (1) Chisel sharpener.
          (2) Drill bit sharpener.
          (3) Bolt threading or rethreading.
          (4) Pipe diameter expander / tube expander.

Used. Rare Keuffel & Esser (K&E) Calligraphy Pen Set (6 Pens, one of each size: 000, 00, 0, 2, 4, 6). Also makes great miniature hand vises / miniature clamps, and fly-tying vises. The heads on all the pens work well, and appear to be brass. All heads are complete, except Pen #6 which has about an 1/8" broken off its tip. While the heads appear to be excellent quality and great condition, the same cannot be said of the wooden shafts. Several have cracks. Pen #2 was missing a piece near the head, and was repaired using epoxy cement. However, all shafts can be highly reinforced using heatshrink tubing, or you can remove the heads and install them onto other shafts. ("calligraphy pens" commonly misspelled "caligraphy pens").

We make strong elastic bands by obtaining cheap used bicycle tubes, then cut the tubes into bands of various widths (depending on applications). This elastic band expansion tool is ideal for expanding, placing and removing strong elastic bands such as our bicycle tube bands. This the ideal tool for elastic band uses - requires only one hand to expand the band while your other hand holds and positions the object - easy, fast and efficient elastic band installations. The bicycle bands, as opposed to cheezy store-bought rubber bands, typically last for years, have much greater tension (which can be selected by specifying tube type and elastic band width), and the bike tire bands tightly hold together bundles of many types of pipes, tubes, rods, cables, small tools (and tool accessories), etc. Also, temporarily secures work pieces together for setting screws, nails, cementing, etc. This versatile tool can also be use to quick and easily make air coils (e.g. to make inductors or to wrap wire, cable, string, thread, tubing, ribbon) up to about 4" in diameter - you simply slide onto each tyne a spool (not provided - empty thread spools work great), expand the spools out to the desired coil size, tape the tool handles so the expanded size stays fixed, wrap the coil, remove the tape, allow the tynes to close back in, and remove the coil from the spools. This elastic band expander is great for general shop use, crafts, modeling, displays, school projects, shipping uses, assembling inventories, and office uses. These high-quality Vise-Grips have four factory modifications, three welded-on: (1) Upper round jaw, (2) Lower round jaw, (3) Special underneath front grip extension, and (4) Drilled-through 1/4" diameter hole. The two round jaws are 1/8"-thick, 1" long hard brass, with an oval opening (when Vise-Grips are closed) of about 3/4"-wide and 1/2"-high. Modified-base Craftsman Articulated Vise/Vice, Item #03311, Pana-like vise - great for crafts, watch repair, jewelry repair, and general uses. This is a very high-quality and highly versatile vise/vice. Opens to 3". Jaws are steel and are 2-3/4" wide, 5/8" high (height is 1-1/4" from rail tops to top of jaw, and you can buy vise jaw inserts to expand existing jaw sizes and/or to better cushion work). This crafts/hobby vise has BOTH horizontal and vertical "V" notches on BOTH jaws (most vises either don't have "V" notches, or only one notch, or notches on only one jaw). Opposing "V" notches much improve the gripping and holding of pipes, tubes, rods and other round or uniquely-shaped objects with minimal slipping, marring and/or distortion - great for crafts, modeling, jewelry and other precision work. This is an highly adjustable ball-and-socket hobby vise with a huge range of head positions in all three axes to provide greatest positioning comfort and precision when working with crafts, modeling, jewelry, clocks, watches, dental objects, other small mechanisms and parts, etc.
          In our shops and labs, we work on electrically grounded steel plates (usually old iron biscuit/cookie/baking pans/sheets) on top of our wood shop and lab work surfaces. Galvanized steel plates/sheets and steel trays also work well. This magnetic base hobby vise also works great on pickup tailgates and other vehicles, appliances and other flat steel/iron surfaces on construction sites, in the field, trips, camping, etc. Steel/iron work surfaces not only protect your underlying surfaces, but allow for more vigorous shop work, are easier to clean than wood, and do not allowing static electric build ups when working with delicate electronics or metal or static-generating objects (if grounded). You can move and reposition this vise anywhere on the work surface, and remove if needed. To move the vise to a different work area, you can just simply pick up the steel/iron plate it is on and move them both together. If you need to remove the hobby vise but not its iron/steel plate, while its magnets highly resist sliding the vise on a steel or iron surface, to more easily remove vise, you just tilt up one side, and then the other sides. If you need even stronger magnetic anchoring, obtain and cement onto the hobby vise's bottom powerful Neodymium magnets (rare earth metal magnets), 1/8" thick is ideal. If you don't need high resistance to moving, then this hobby vise also works fine on other surfaces, including wood, plastic, aluminum, glass, hard rubber, formica, granite and marble (because the magnets are plastic matrix, damage risk to surfaces is small). On most non-steel/iron surfaces, there is still some resistance to sliding because the magnets' plastic matrix tends to resist sliding unless wet.
          Caution: Metal plates are not recommended for working with exposed AC line voltages or other high voltages because of risk of shock. While this vise itself will amazingly hang vertically on many flat steel/iron surfaces because its magnets are very strong (even hangs upside down!), do not use this vise to hold objects these ways as it may fall.
          STANDARD VISE BASES: Almost all new vises come with 3 types of bases, all of which are inferior to our magnetic base: (1) Clamped-On Vises: Disadvantages are that vise is limited to table, work bench or work desk edge, not easy to remove or move base, and they mar and indent surfaces. (2) Rubber-Based Suction Vises: Disadvantages are that they don't adhere to many surfaces unless they are very flat, smooth and clean (e.g. clean formica surface), the suction may often, suddenly or unexpectedly break, you have to wet the surface or rubber base for best attachment, and any damage or defect in the rubber base ruins its suction ability. (3) Vises with Flanges to Screw Onto Work Surfaces: Disadvantages are that you damage the mounting surface with screw holes, placement and removal requires much more time and effort, and you are virtually stuck with one vise base position. At the front end is an adjustable pointed cutter or stylus. These lucite tools were made of lucite so that the underlying map or document could be viewed through the tool for faster and more efficient positioning.
We were emailed that these lucite tools were used in cartography (map making). They placed over a base map a clear mylar sheet which was coated with orange or red translucent paint (map was visible thru the coated plastic mylar). The lucite tool with its sharp cutter was placed on the coated mylar sheet, and then moved along where one wanted a line or border, cutting the mylar to make a handmade negative of the relevant underlying map area. After all relevant lines were cut, the resulting map negative was contact printed as part of a mapping project. Other coated mylar could have windows cut out of them using this lucite tool - the part that one wanted to view the map or document thru or print, while obscuring the rest of the map or document, was peeled off to make a window. In this case, the cutter was used to go around and cut the outside edge of the window. Clearly, this precision professional tool could also be used for many projects involving the cutting of paper, cardstock or plastic sheet, ranging from cutting out or tracing images of favorite celebrities in magazines, paper dolls, signs, editing photographs, etc. Can also be used as an engraving tool or outlining tool, scoring tool, and for making cut lines, break lines and tear lines (e.g. cutting out gaskets). This lucite tool can probably be modified to replace the cutter with a pen or pencil.

This metal lathe QCTP also makes a great 3-piece Steel Specialized Clamp used to clamp onto perpendicular objects or edges. As a metal lathe QCTP, this precision tool bolts into the compound side of the metal lathe. Then individual tool bits are clamped in the removable holders. You then select one of the two mounting points and drop the holder into place, and lock it down. There is an adjustment to let you set each holder to bring each tool bit to center. Each of the two edge blocks (each has 3 screws) may be adjusted up or down by loosening a locking screw on the bottom left edge (left image) or top right edge (screws not shown), so the edge blocks can be independently adjusted up or down to fit even if seriously misaligned, uneven and/or different thickness parts. These edge blocks can also be removed. One edge block has a "V" groove machined along its inside middle, like many vises do, for gripping round tools, stock or other objects. This clamp or vise is very useful if, for example, you need to join two pieces of metal, wood or plastic at right angles to each other (even when they differ in thicknesses and/or alignment) to screw, cement, solder, braze or weld together, thus making this versatile clamp into a really nice alignment jig tool. These Griplier locking pliers are stamped with: "The 'Third Hand' for Small Assemblies". The "gun site" like structure at the top is the lever that you push forward with your thumb to lock these XACTO pliers, causing it to hold tightly onto the object of interest. You push it back to unlock. These extremely rare Griplier pliers make an absolutely wonderful collectible for collectors of tools in general, pliers in general, locking pliers, clamping tools or locking tools, XACTO tools, electronic tools, craft tools, modeling tools, etc. - your collection is not complete without THIS very rare XACTO Lock Griplier Pliers. Great tool collectible / pliers collectible - if you are a pliers collector or punch collector and you don't have one of these, then clearly your pliers collection or punch collection is incomplete. Also, these cone-nosed pliers punch is very useful. Even if widely opened, the edge of top edge of the cone is accessible to a hammer. Functions include: (1) Pressing or tapping countersink holes into wood, plastic and soft metals. (2) Punching starter holes and widening existing holes into wood, plastics and soft metals. (3) Punching holes into cans and other containers. (4) Manipulating springs. (5) Sizing and expanding rings. (6) Opening chains and locks. (7) Swaging or shaping holes. This hand held pinch vise or pinch clamp tool was made from a rare antique tool (no parts of the antique tool are missing or modified). Pinch clamp opens between 0" to about 5/16" to hold any object within that thickness range (if bigger gap is needed, simply use a longer thumb screw). Its two washers have rubber pads on them to not mar your held objects. You can easily remove these two washers and substitute with washers with or without rubber pads (e.g. to solder or heat the held object or to dip it into chemicals) - bigger washers, smaller washers, oval washers, rectangular washers, and other odd-shaped and odd-type washers or extensions you can make or buy to customize this tool for your particular needs. Washers and extensions can be made of metal, wood, plastic, hard rubber or composite materials. Primarily used to remove one object from inside another object (e.g. a wire, rod, tube or pipe inserted inside of a larger one). You simply place the two objects into the jaws of the pliers, then squeeze the handles. The pliers first grips tightly and uniformly around each object as its jaws close. Then, as you squeeze more on the handles, the jaws steadily pull apart, smoothly and steadily removing the gripped smaller object from the gripped larger object. This is the kind of tool that most users don't use frequently, however, when you need it, virtually nothing else will work or at least work nearly as well (if you use pliers, you likely will crush the objects, if you use your hands, you won't nearly have the leverage and smoothness that these pliers have). Rare high-quality steel Adjustable-Head Claw Head Hammer. We recently bought this adjustable-head claw head hammer at an estate sale (a year earlier, we bought another one exactly like this adjustable hammer also at an estate sale where the wife of the deceased stated that hammer's owner was a tool inventor, which we sold Nov. 6 on eBay for $995), so this adjustable-head claw hammer may even be an invention prototype, manufacturer's approval sample, or a (very) limited issue tool (we do not know how many were made or are still available). With decades of experience of buying unusual tools, we have found only three adjustable head hammers, including this one, all of this same type, all found near Albuquerque, NM, and we own this one and the one we have in our tool collection.
UTILITY: The claw hammer's head is easily and quickly adjusted. You simply push in the long black lever, and then position the head to the desired angle (of 3 angles), then release the lever, leaving the head rigidly and securely at selected angle. This adjustable-head claw hammer has outstanding advantages over standard non-adjustable hammers. In its traditional "T" head position, the hammer has all the uses of normal claw head hammers of this general size, shape and weight. However, with the head pointed up of this adjustable hammer, you can reach 2+ inches higher, and it also great for working on vertical surfaces (e.g. walls and fences), slanted-up surfaces (e.g. roofs), for nailing near the edge of a surface you don't want to accidentally hit or score (e.g. high up on a wall near a ceiling), for difficult ceilings and overhead work, and for nailing nails angled towards you. With the head pointed down, hammering on slanted-down surfaces (e.g. roofs), difficult underside surfaces, and for nails angled away from you. Of equal importance, when you pull nails or separate stuck boards using a claw hammer's claw, the angle of the hammer handle, along with your body's position, are critical to the amount of leverage you can apply (i.e. nail-pulling force / board-separating force). With this adjustable-head claw hammer, you can adjust head angle to much more easily, quickly and efficiently pull nails and separate stuck boards. For maximum leverage for pulling nails, the angled-up hammer head position is especially powerful where you are also pushing against the surface with the nails. For this Norpro model, the 3-prong head can be unscrewed, leaving a threaded screw that other attachments can be mounted to (other attachments not included). These features are especially useful if you want to convert the Norpro into a nice, wide-opening, strong but yet lightweight vise or clamp by screwing on a large washer head instead of the prong head and removing the slicer tube. These are new materials for making scabbards of many different kinds and types. Each set consists of one piece of hard plastic core scabbard material that is 21" long and will hold blades up to 1-1/4" wide and 1/8" thick, plus one 24" long piece of 1" diameter (1-5/8" flat width) soft plastic heatshrink tubing which you can cover the hard platic core material with if you wish (you can of course use the heat shrink for anything else you want to). Heavy duty book press / paper press / object press. Great book binding equipment as either a printer collectible / bindery collectible or for the job. If job efficiency and speed are important to you, this press / compressor is well-designed and practically unbeatable as set up and release of objects of even highly varying thicknesses being pressed / compressed is easy and fast. Press will handle books, piles of papers, cardboard or anything else you want to press together (up to 8" thick), for examples, to do glue jobs / cement jobs, to press leaves / press flowers, to squeeze out water from cloth, to do prints, to press in indentations / stampings / embossings, for molds, to press electronic components / mechanical components into assemblies, to keep object in a fixed position so it doesn't move around or shift while you are tooling it or painting it, etc. Uses are virtually endless!

Boards are 12" x 7" x 1/2" plywood and are somewhat aged and worn, but you can easily replace them with other boards, metal plates, plastic plates, molds, frames, etc., as they are attached with screws. And of course you can always sandwich between the boards other boards, tempered glass, plastic plates, metal plates, moldings, etc. of various sizes and shapes. The center of the clamp stands 4" from the front edge of the steel shaft that holds the clamp assembly. This means that for boards or plates upto 8" wide, the clamp can be exactly centered. You can substitute or sandwich in boards, etc. up to about 12" wide (if you don't require exact clamp centering) and up to about 16" long for larger works, and of course you can always use smaller boards, etc. as you wish.

The right part of second image shows the bottom of the press and how it sits on surfaces. The top board or plate is easily removed once you release the pressure on it so that you get good visibility in placing and positioning your work on top of the bottom board or plate. Initial positioning is made by quickly sliding up the clamp assembly with its top board/plate along the steel shaft, similarly to how many long carpenter clamps work, and then positioning the top board / plate and snugly tightening down with the clamp's worm screw mechanism to compress the object.

This press is moderate in weight compared to typical worm-screw only presses (which we also sell, see my webpages), and with its convenient "carrying handle" (i.e. the steel shaft), it is highly portable and easy to transport, place, set up and manueuver on the fly on work benches, work tables, pick-up beds, van shops, and other work surfaces. If you replace the boards with metal plates, you can even use the press on a heated surfaces to do hot presses.

We bought this press at an estate sale; son of deceased told us that his father was a dentist and used these presses decades ago to make dentures. Great as a car shop press, machine shop press, crafts shop press, hobby press, modeling press, general mechanical press, production press for factory, other business and home as a press, clamp or vise. Weighs about 13 lbs. Height is 10.5" when cranked all the way down. Handle is 11.5" long, which can of course be extended for greater pressing power using a pipe extension. Plate area is 7" X 4" (upper round press plate is 4" in dia.). Clearance can be varied from 1" to 5-1/8" for thick objects. Horizontal clearance is 4-1/2" wide, so it easily takes 2x4 amd 4x4 lumber and 4" pipe. Worm screw is 3/4" thick steel. While We have had it cranked down to several 100s of pounds of pressure, best we could tell, it was not even close to its limit (which is not stated on is unknown). The screw-press does have surface rust on it but as far as we can tell, the does not appreciably affect either its operation or maximum applied force. However, since neither the base nor the bottom of the round upper press plate is real smooth, the user might want to slide in 1/4" - 1" thick hardwood, pressed board, metal, plastic or rubber surfaces, according to what suits his/her needs best when smooth contact is required. Can be easily mounted on a work bench, work table, pick up truck bed, RV, van, camper, etc.

This is an industrial-grade Blick steel rotational press / rolling press which manually presses items together using two steel rollers, similar to some printing presses. Rollers are 10-1/2" wide. Spacing between rollers is adjustable up to several inches (each side is adjusted independently to achieve just the right pressure and to accommodate uneven work). These presses have endless and critical uses for the general shop, crafts, hobbies, model-making, printing, photography, etchings, etc. For example, one can carve out a logo, figures, message, etc. on a square of linoleum, ink it up and run it through the press to tranfer the image onto paper, cardboard, plastic, metal, wood, etc. For example, one can use it to cement to items together under the pressure of the rollers. Except for some surface discoloration in the bottom roller and on the 19-1/2" x 10-1/2" x 1/8" heavy steel plate, the press is in mint condition. There is no pitting on either the rollers or the plate. The steel plate can be used as a press plate for the pressing process, or a bottom plate to hold or collect items related to the pressing process, put it on blocks and use it as a feeding tray, or for whatever other press or non-press use you can make of it. The original handle got lost, so we made a steel handle that in my opinion works better and faster than the original handle. This Blick press is a cold press, and not a thermal press. It does not come with a manual, but it is simple and straightforward to use.

Used and works great. This rare and unique stamping tool was originally made for stamping livestock in the mouth as a form of branding them. However, it has many other practical uses where one needs to uniquely identify something in a way that is both permanent (cannot be erased or covered up and won't wear out) and very difficult to counterfeit. You dial in the 4-digit serial number by rotating the wheels at the top of the tool head. Each digit consists of a number of 1/4"-long pointed steel spikes arrayed in the form of a digit (0 - 9) which penetrates or at least indents the material being marked. See upper right of image to see what the stamping looks like. Works especially well with soft-to-medium materials such as leather, plastic, some metals and wood, and flesh between 1/32" to 1/4" thick. Also makes a great collectible. Has some surface discoloration and rust.

Like new. Heavy, very hard, and apparently a 100% carbon composite cone form, apparently precision-machined and not cast. We can barely scratch it with a sharp X-Acto knife. Actual weight is 1.5 lbs and feels very solid. Base is 6.5" diameter, and it is about 3" tall. Undersided (not shown) is hollow in the cone area, about 2" deep to tip of cone, making the cone surface itself probably about 1" thick. Base "ring" is solid 1.25" wide all around and 1" tall. Material is an electrical insulator material and not magnetic. This is definitely some kind of industrial, scientific or laboratory type cone form. Can be used as a form for shaping, as some kind of mount or mold form, for scientific experiments and science fairs, to launch experimental rockets from, for various crafts, general shop uses, display uses, as part of a mold for casting, and as a cover of some type - many possible different uses. We collect weird scientific and electronic devices, and this is the first one of these we 've ever run into. Do you know what it is? This is apparently one of those kinds of things that when you need one, they are almost impossible to find and nothing else will do.

Used and works great. This rare Simonds slotted tool seems like it may have a practical use for rolling ribbon or similar material up. Someone told us it was a common tool used in conjunction with weaving looms back in the 1920s. Three other persons told us that it is a handle for a Simonds crosscut saw - a two-man crosscut saw used for felling large trees in the lumber industry - a Simond saw handle is most probably its actual original use. However, it can also be used for holding a scraping, cutting or chopping head (e.g. axe head). Or for holding or positioning a wedge. Or for aligning big nails or stakes. Or for opening or closing containers that have a rectangular head that fits into the slot. Also makes a great tool collectible. We bought it at an estate sale where the family told us it was `about 100 years old.' We are collecting rare, weird and old tools for decades now. We have never run into another tool like this one. Slot is 3-1/2" long and 3/16" wide with an adjustable washer. It has seen a lot of use, and its surface finish is rough. A nice collectible or integrated into a crafts project.

Used in very good working condition. Three different sizes - 5/8", 1", 1-1/8" diameters. These look like hair curling irons and are probably even usable as hair curling irons. However, they are high-quality, sturdily-built industrial equipment used to shape, mold, form or curl plastics, soft metals in sheet, cardstock, ribbons, etc. either cold or hot (depending on material shaped and end application). They are not connected to electricity. You heat them up in a fire or preferably, using a curling iron heater. Can also be used to apply labels, logos and brands. Can also be used as holders, especially for extending tubing and pipe into fires, chemical baths, securing round glue jobs, etc. And for expanding out rubber and plastic tubes or preventing them from collapsing.

This device can be used strictly for fun and amusement purposes, or it can be used to record, copy or create a pin image of any surface, just about no matter how rough, wavy or irregular the surface is. This is practically unbeatable device if you need to create a mating part to an unusual surface. It will also produce a "negative" image of an irregular surface. BLACK METAL WALL HANGINGS / STANDS

Rare and in excellent condition. These are great railroad collectibles, vintage metal railroad wall hangings, and useful and versatile support structures (stands). We saw railroad memorabilia like these on a train decades ago as children (Dad was Santa Fe Conductor and we used to regulary ride the Santa Fe Super Chief, Chief and El Capitan out of Barstow). However, we can't recall what exactly they were made for. They appear to be decorative metal railroad wall hangings, they are also excellent as stands. They also have a re-enforced 5/8" center hole, so possibly they could have been used as strong, sturdy stands, scaffolding or supports to suspend a rod, pipe or tube (or paper roll / fabric roll / carpet roll / plastic sheeting roll / ribbon roll / wire roll / cable roll / hose roll between them, e.g. butcher paper holder, packaging paper), which in turn could have suspended a pot or some other load. Such a rod could also suspend various tools, lamps and/or magnifiers (e.g. a paper cutter blade) for kitchen or shop applications. The facing small holes could have been used for rods, threaded at the ends for nuts, to complete the assembly to increase strength and stability, if needed. Should you want to use them for some type of holder, you can custom specify the distance the standsare apart to fit your applications (within the mechanical limits of the Item). These railroad collectibles are made of iron or steel, very strong and sturdy, painted black. 13" x 7-3/8" x 3/16" thick.

Used and in great condition. We don't know what these "V" clamps were originally designed to do. Each clamp system consists of a trough-like structure that is 11-1/2" long and 1-5/8" wide at the top which tapers down on all sides to about 9" long and 1/2" wide at the bottom, and about 1-1/8" deep. Each has two sliding clamps with it. At the bottom is a clamp that slides along a slot at the very bottom, and that tightens using two knobs, and that looks like it clamps to a flat rail or bar of some type. The top clamp slides along and above the top lip of the trough, and is used to clamp down whatever you are working on or want to secure in the trough. These things look like they are used to hold down or secure something in the trough perhaps for soaking, washing, cleaning, grinding, polishing, machining, painting, carving, soldering, etc. They look like they were originally designed for some type of photographic, jewelry-making or laboratory purpose, but can be further adapted for many general shop, craft, hobby, model-making, etc. uses. We do not know the make or model or age. This is a kind of tool which has many uses, is very versatile, but when you need it virtually nothing will substitute for it.
